Both men were successful amateurs for their respective countries - with Ramírez representing Venezuela in the Olympics in 2016 and Ćalić boxing in qualifiers both that year and 2020 hoping to represent Croatia but falling short - but one has made a smooth transition into the pros and the other hasn't.

Ćalić once beat names like Mihai Nistor, Israel Duffus, Armend Xhoxhaj, Alen Babić, and Yamil Alberto Peralta x3 - but in the pros his only claim to fame was giving Joshua Buatsi a bit of difficulty en route to a stoppage loss. And he's now 37.

Ramírez also has some very good amateurs wins, most notably Cuban legends Erislandy Savon and Julio Cesar La Cruz. He is 32 now, and looks to have a ton of remaining upside.

Yeah, every scheduled undercard bout has concluded. Next would have been Jalolov vs. Spilmont, but that was canceled due to illness.

I really feel as though Eye of the Tiger may have just inadvertently tossed a banana peel in Biyarslanov's path here. Dude is facing a longer taller fellow southpaw with a good chin, slippery defense, and quicker feet. Arguably the only area where Mimoune is inferior is power. :deal:

    Round 1

Biyarslanov is tossing a jab inclined from his chest up to Mimoune's face but hitting the pinky edge of either glove as Mimoune pins his thumbs against his cheeks and circles to his right. Biyarslanov with a parabola left on the body. Mimoune taking wide languid steps around Biyarslanov, forcing the Russian to make 3-4 steps to catch up to him. Biyarslanov jabbing into the guard. Mimoune very stingy, letting next to nothing through but also not throwing much. Mimoune loops a left into the side of Biyarslanov's neck.

    10-9 Biyarslanov, close

Good stoppage. The guy didn't want to fight.

Mimoune got caught, hurt and dropped early in round two. Biyarslanov jumps on him relentlessly, flurrying with power shots nonstop. Mimoune getting raked with right hooks and roundhouse lefts while ducking, blocking, parrying, and clinching - whatever he can manage. Biyarslanov just won't let up. Ref jumps in and waves it off at an awkward moment, Mimoune still intelligently defending himself, but oh well. There were moments earlier in the round where a stoppage wouldn't have seemed amiss.

    TKO2!

A bit early, but Mimoune wasn't fighting back. He had been down and was taking a lot of punches.

Ugh, come on. I've always liked Mimoune, but they're calling him a "former world champ". It was the freaking IBO. :duh

Wasn't even a case of Biyarslanov finding a leak in the defense. Mimoune was initially rocked (and IMO his equilibrium never recovered) by a blocked looping power shot. Not much you can do about that. :nusenuse:
