Choc apparently still continued to call out Danny Green for a rematch to get one last payday in his post-fight interview.

Maybe after getting his revenge on Mundine by starching him, Green will be a big enough star in his own mind to start calling Joe out to unretire and meet him @ Dannyweight. :yep

I can see it now. "You only beat Jones by split decision, I KO1ed him!! :deal"

 

Yep, it all depends on his primary motivator.

Pride, anger (he and Froch have been trading barbs in the media all year and some of it has gotten personal, spilling over from each posturing about how they would be victorious and criticizing the other in terms of in-ring ability to involve Rachael Cordingley ) or money it'll be Froch.

For legacy, it would be Ward or Jones, though by very different means - the former being a real challenge that would buy Calzaghe "streed cred" he was lacking while active, the latter being a ridiculously easy silver platter opportunity to become a 3-division champion.

 

...and yet, thinking in terms of how either would be viewed by historians 100 years from now - who's to say they would have the proper context to differentiate between a victory over Ward as opposed to Jones II?

Sure, they might stumble across the odd article calling Jones long since washed up but they could shrug it off as haters being haters and point to his win streak and WBC cruiserweight title capture (if and when that happens) and still end up lauding Calzaghe for besting him twice and boosting his resume with the addition of a CW belt.

Crazy thought, but... who knows how far off-base we are in our analysis of 19th century fighters now? Granted we are in a tougher position working off no footage and with the internet having not been a twinkle in Al Gore's eye back then (nor the grandfather of Gore himself a twinkle in his great-pappy's eye) but still..

 

Stevenson would count for less than Lacy.

 

What if Jones gets his CW title? Very low risk there (virtually none, even with the 7 year hiatus) and massive reward, no?
