Matchroom's inreased interest in boxing has co-incided with Eddie Hearn coming more to the fore and its been a good thing, better Saturday night fights, bringing in Froch (i think a nice swap with Sky) and putting together a decent stable with ambition. This thread is wrong, its wrong godamit
Is it really? they damn near disappeared for 10 years when boxing was struggling, but as soon as the likes of Hatton, Calzaghe and Khan get ppl talking about it, they're back like they've never been away. Say what you want about W@rren, he's been in it thru thick and thin. The Hearn family will be gone as soon as these latest fighters they've nicked off other promoters r no longer producing milk.
I doubt that very highly! Fighters will be seeing what a good job Matchroom are doing with there fighters and will want to be topping the bill on Saturday Fight Night instead of buried at the bottom of This content is protected undercards fighting at 6 or 7 pm.
well they have consistently had sky shows, just not any name fighters - surely the fact they have just walked backed into it like they havent been away means they know what they are at they are a business - you cant expect them to stay involved if they are losing money. They slacked off boxing because Barry Hearn grew weary of it, the son has brought it back to life
I don't think Barry Hearn was ever that comfortable with boxing. I dont think he liked the dirt. He preferred clients like Steve Davis and being involved in snooker. He still put one over Don King and not too many can say that.
True he got one over Don King, and thats always got to be applauded, however his getting that over him possibly stopped one of the greatest tournaments in boxing history, one which would have put the super six to shame. And then again recently he had ppl asking what on earth Paul o'Grady was so mad about in the ring after the Khan-McCloskey fight
Eubank, Reggie Johnson, Benn, Nunn, Toney, Roy jones Jr, Gerald McClellan, or so the rumour goes. There was a press conference in New york supposedly, but i'm not 100% sure, i'm hoping buncey or one of the more learned posters can shed a little more light on the subject, or tell me off for spreading unsubstatiated rumours from yesteryear.
He's an old showman, camera whoring it up over Froch's shoulder in the johnson fight. i've never seen a promoter walk in with a fighter before.
Don King negotiated that he would own the rights to the winner and loser of Eubank v Benn 2. When the fight turned out to be a draw Hearn spotted that the contract did not specify what would happen in the event of a draw. There was no winner or loser so Hearn held on to the rights to Eubank. King was sore over that but there was nothing he could do.
