Hearn was all over YouTube the other day saying how Joshua’s aim was to become a 3 time world champion.

I don’t profess to be an expert but he’s 36 and his last 3 opponents stretching 2 years will have been a YouTuber, a MMA fighter and a pasting by Dubois. Hardly the way to go about it.

He also makes out that his two times status beating Charles Martin and Andy Ruiz is up there with defeating Lennox Lewis and a prime Iron Mike Tyson.

It also shows what the world’s coming to when Jake Paul genuinely thinks he has a shot in this. And he clearly does believe it. The guy could have picked literally anyone from boxing or MMA, and instead he’s convinced himself he can beat a full-sized “elite” heavyweight. It’s that strange mix of delusion and overconfidence you see in some athletes, amplified by being surrounded by people who make a living telling him he’s unbeatable.

You can’t blame Joshua. In his eyes it’s free money. But how are you supposed to take the sport seriously after something like this. Of course I’ll end up watching it, but AJ’s a spiteful finisher when he wants to be, and unless this whole thing is scripted, Paul will wind him up in the build-up and Joshua will take great pleasure in leaving him flat on the canvas.

I can’t see Jake landing anything meaningful on Joshua; the size difference alone is massive. Part of me almost wants him to catch “Humble” just for the chaos, and the other part wants Joshua to end it with the first clean shot inside ten seconds, the way Naz did when he came out against Lawal.

Expecting the ring-walks and promo to be the highlight, much like the NEPO rematch.

The thing that's bothering me. Forget Joshua for a minute, they're saying it's horrible that we have a mismatch of this kind, Paul's "no better than Southern Area" etc.

Why is it OK that we have stars against bin men on every other show? Why was it OK for Joshua to fight Hector Avila (at least a dozen KO losses into his career) but not Paul?

Give them credit for taking the cash but some of the hypocrisy in boxing is off the scale.

Gimmick fight for a busted flush gimmick of a fighter.

Glass chin, glass heart, glass resumé.

Clearly Joshua is never going to dethrone any half decent World Champion in the ring having failed to do it in his career to date.

Poor Hector Avila was knackered climbing the steps to the ring and probably earned less than £10k for being flattened.

A disgrace of a fight that night.

And of course the chat until about a week ago was Joshua having a "low-key 8-rounder" in December on someone's undercard somewhere - no doubt we'd have had all the chat about AJ being charitable to whoever's show it was, etc.

No mention of the fall guy who would have been set up for that one? The short notice and lack of names suggest it would have been scraping the barrel anyway.

A bit of me hopes Paul has trained with Usain Bolt and runs for several rounds just to make it look bad.

Totally get this point, I've been thinking this for a while. The only thing that about this fight that's different, is some of these journeyman, cans, Lithuanian taxi drivers etc fight at some kind of heavyweight standard, not always great, but fight other heavyweights never the less. They are used to going around the circuit sparring other heavy weights, been put down by heavyweights and are seasoned to that weightclass. As far as I can tell, JP has never stepped in the ring with a heavyweight than OAP Mike Tyson. Maybe he had some heavyweight sparring for that fight?

Got the feel of a retired Championship Level Footballer playing amateur football as a sporting event.

Wonder if Joshua has the obligatory rematchroom clause should the unthinkeable happen and he gets another Andy Ruiz humiliation.

I seem to be one of the rare ones here who isn't arsed by this fight.

If Paul is dumb enough to get in the ring with Joshua and think he can win, then let him. He is delusional and could do with a taste of reality. He'll get knocked out quickly, have a sore head for a few days, then check his bank balance and feel better. Yes, there is the danger something tragic could happen, but those things tend to happen after a long brutal fight. There is no danger of that happening as Paul will fall after the first few real blows are landed.

I can't blame Joshua for taking the fight, either. It will be one of the easiest £50-70m paydays anyone has made in history.

I'm not sure what the big problem with Joshua is about his proposed opponent before this fight was made. He was going to fight a relative nobody after a year out post getting battered by Dubios. There's nothing new here. Most fighters do this, particularly at this stage of their career. Apparently, he'll have a fight at the start of 2026 (I imagine it will be whoever he was going to fight in December), before a proposed fight with Fury in the summer. If Fury stays retired, I imagine Joshua will wait to see what Usyk does. If Usyk retires and the belts scatter, Joshua will probably stick around and look to get a shot at a vacant title.

I’m not hugely offended by this either, will probably watch it! As long as we see this for what it is and don’t pretend it’s real boxing

I do have to laugh though as what distinctly sticks in my mind is when it was put to Eddie a couple of years back (around the time of fury ngannou) about Joshua engaging in these sort of fights-he showed some real disgust on Joshuas behalf- “Anthony’s a boxing man through and through he’s not interested in these kind of pantomime fights” or words to that affect, how times have changed?

Again, as always, the answer is money and who can blame them, the issue of selling out your unwavering values and morals for big amounts of money isn’t just a boxing issue, its true of humans in general..

I don’t know why all these fully grown men are butthurt that AJ is making a quick buck, would any of you turn down this kind of money for plastering Jake Paul? I wouldn’t. **** legacy, we are all just mere dots in history, none of us will be remembered after enough time has passed.
