You know, this is really tricky. Because initially everyone is psyched they get to see a couple fights or unifications they always wanted ...

We needed to see Fury-Usyk. But was Fury-Usyk a GREAT heavyweight title fight? I know people liked the outcome around here, but was the fight great? No. Now we're getting it twice? Okay.

I mean, the guy has all the money in the world, he can make whatever he wants, and how many truly GREAT fights has he put on so far?

Was Joshua-Wallin a great fight? Kinda boring. Was Parker-Wilder? Really boring. Thank goodness for Daniel Dubois. He's actually been the only one really delivering exciting performances.

But when all the matchups are basically at the whim of one person, will that be better? I guess we're going to find out.

Maybe PBC and BOXXER and others should hold out and be ready to catch everyone who gets lost. Because promoters look for whoever has the most money now. They aren't great long-term thinkers. Arum wants everything he can get before he croaks soon.

After this guy gets his jollies matching some of his favorites, whether they're good fights or not, what next?

I mean that Turki already likes a British prospect Frank Warren has. Can't think of his name now. Mark Chamberlain. And Warren says he doesn't know why Turki likes him but he wants to see more of him and move him fast. And Warren doesn't think Chamberlain is ready but still kisses the ring and says maybe Turki knows best.

In the past, if a prospect loses, the promoter may stick with him for a while, or cut him off and then that fighter goes to someone else and continues on. Maybe he thrives under the next guy. If all the promoters are with this Turki guy, and Turki decides he doesn't want to see a fighter again, where do they go if all the promoters are taking orders from one guy?

I think a lot of young prospects could get derailed because the guy with all the money just starts demanding matchups "he" wants to see that may not be so great for the fighters. Will promoters and managers stand up for the fighters, or just take the payday?

We'll see. This could go sideways really fast.

Just feels like once we run thru the matchups we want to see ... the whole sport is stuck with one nut who's calling the shots.

Yea long term if its really going to work, they need to institute a ranking system (hopefully more fair than what some of the sanctioning bodies put out) and a fair way to have a #1 contender along with 1 world title.

    Fair ratings.

Dude, Fury and Wilder both didn't fight for a whole year because this guy wanted to build a new stadium before giving them a big payday in 2023, and they played along.

The ratings and matchups and when they happen are whatever and whenever that guy wants.

We're about to see what happens when ONE FAN takes over the whole game. And, as we all know, none of us agree on anything.

Haha hey I'm not saying your wrong, just thinking long term if its really going to work. But your right, its resulted in some good matches but also feels like a kid who picks his favorite toys to play with because they are his favorite.

The matchups on paper are fine. The fights overall (except really Dubois, who has been a surprise) haven't been anything special.

But I'm glad we got to see them.

I just don't know if, after he's done seeing the fights he's wanted to see, if it'll be better having one guy controlling everything or an assortment providing different options.

Having options tends to be better.

We'll see. But I don't think all the promoters should hop on. I like the fights PBC and BOXXER have put on this year. I know they're all up against it now. But maybe not put all our eggs in one basket, as they say.

I can see how this could be seen as good for established guys wanting a big matchup here and there. But I can't see how this is going to be great for up and coming fighters long term with one guy deciding if he likes you and wants you on shows or not.

I’m more afraid monopolies are never good for the progression of anything, it’s more the ped cheating that needed fixing than the match making in boxing.
Belts will now be secondary to what turki wants to see.
It could be the end of the ranking system, and weight classes, we have already seen the signs, he is saying he is going to make Crawford v Canelo and there’s obviously enough money on the table that no one is rejecting it.
I dont like it at all and I think it’s very bad for boxing in the long term.

It might be a good thing. He really doesn't need to make loads of money off of the fights. He can be greedy elsewhere. Overpay the fighters to make the fights people want to see and eventually people will start showing up an supporting the sport.

You underestimate Don if he had the ruling authority the Saudis do. He's more than capable of crimes against humanity.

Can a mod please change the thread title to "His Eminence Turki Alasheikh" please.

Put some respek on his name.

Seriously though, short term this is good for the fighters as they'll make much better purses. It's put boxing back on top vs MMA (at the highest level at least).

Hopefully they would prioritize action and excitement, like reward forward-moving and aggressive fighters, they could even avoid the even 12 rounds.
