MSTR thank god for Cotto

Margarito's comp is nothing on Cottos and I gotta say, I think his fans are really clutching by talking him up the way they do. He may well prove to have the skill his fans would like to see him with, but damn... the guy aint superman... yet.

Cotto will find a way inside imo and he is capable of knocking Marg out.

Certainly man... i dont think it's a whitewash or a shoe in at all.

I just need to see more of Marg (overall) to give a proper prediction. But from what I have seen, I think Cotto takes it. That's based on about 2 Marg fights, 3 or so Cotto fights and the names on their records.

So i'm no expert with this one. But people in the main forum get overzealous when talking about Marg. Like he's the only certainty to take PBF etc... like... where do they get that idea? He beat Clottey & Clintron... great, now go get Floyd!! ...just don't match up.

But maybe I just need to be educated on it further...

In answer to your question, yes I think he could very well. But if it's a toe to toe fight, Cotto will find the advantage sooner.

 

Also... Marg/Williams will be a good gauge I think. Williams has good speed and is accurate in messy scraps as is Cotto... If Marg does Williams in a decent manner, then I will certainly give him a solid shot vs Cotto.

 

I love Aussie fighters too. But I also support good exciting fighters. Cotto IMO is the epitomy of this. Very humble and seems very likable also. Much better for boxing then Floyd Mayweather.

I think the other guys on the board respect his ability but I wouldn't go as far to say he is everyones number 1 fighter. Don't get caught up in my hype too much:good

 

I don't support fighters because of race. I basically support fighters because I like there style. You could call me a sell out, although I still support guys like Mundine, Katsidis,Darchiinyian ect. If a Kessler fight comes through you watch me give it to the whole of Denmark.

Anyway, I don't care if he is Peurtorican (spelling?) I just think he has better ability then Margarito and will chop him down inside. Style wise he matches up very well to Marg.

 

I disagree here. I believe that the Williams fight will be a good one, and i have picked WIlliams to win, but I don't think in any way this will provide any sort of indication as to how he will perform against Cotto.

Williams is a long volume punching southpaw, where as Cotto is a compact power punching orthadox fighter. They are nothing alike, and a victory against one will really not provide any sort of insight as to how a match with the other would turn out.

 

I guess I meant level of skill MSTR... Marg/Williams I think has FOTY potential all over it, even with some of the impressive fights we've seen so far. I meant things that can be measured regardless of how similar any fighters are.

I.e. I dont mean it's a toned down version of fighter a beats c etc etc...

Williams will test Marg and vice verca... who ever wins, especially if it's convincing, has the skill set to make Cotto/Marg & Cotto/Williams alot harder to pick.

 

I expect Margarito to win in a greatly exciting contest.

Well if anything Cotto fights like a mexican more than he does the sterotypical puerto rican.

I reckon he fights more like Julio Cesar Chavez or Castillo then Benitez & Calderon.

Margs is in for a tough fight against Williams but I think he will win it.
I think Cotto will dice him up but he is certainly a capable fighter and a good chance at winning.
Margs is plenty big for a WW and I feel if its a physical fight that goes into the later rounds Margs is going to be in his element there.

I reckon if it goes the distance Margarito would lose just about every round up until the last 3 or 4, then he will be putting Miguel under the pump to the final bell.

 

I think that's one thing for sure... since entering this thread i've done a bit of looking into both guys. Watching Vids etc. This fight could seriously kick some seriously serious ass!

Williams, from what I'm seeing is so damn accurate... the way he handled Mitchell was awesome to watch. Marg should have him yes, but I wouldn't be surprised either way!

 

Cotto is the second coming of Chavez IMO. If you manage to catch yourself some prime JC Superstar, Cotto is of the same ilk.

 

Good post... particularly the comparison of the mexican and peurto rican fighters. Although you could say that Cotto fights similarly to Trinidad.

 

Very good comparison. I feel that Cotto is more well rounded as a boxer then Chavez, but on the same token Chavez was better at cutting off the ring and using his head movement to get inside. Sitll that said they are very alike in the ring, and both very exciting to watch. Prime Chavez was a beast. I love watching him just hunt down his opponents.
