MSTR thank god for Cotto

Fair enough. I can see very easily though if Marg beats Williams it will be "untested hype job" stuff from the haters. Although not from me, I will personally give him a tonne of credit. Williams can take a punch and is very tricky to fight. His punch out put and reach + southpaw stance would be tough for anyone.

Style wise, If you watch Williams against Maythse he stuggles when he got in on his chest. I don't know if Marg will be able to do this though as he doesn't have good head movement and is so tall also. Marg has had trouble with southpaws in the past (santos particularly) where he has looked decidedly ordinary. I think Williams has the tools to beat him. If Marg can adapt to get the win he will deserve all the credit in the world.

If Williams is to get the victory, Cotto would absolutely annihilate him no doubt in my mind. Cotto is all wrong for Williams. Hatton IMO would also give Williams hell, although Hatton too doesn't excel against southpaws. Basically anyway who has the ability to burrow inside will beat him, but against the right opponents he will be a nightmare. Williams needs to be carefully managed IMO, if he wants to do well in the division.

 

Yep, I agree, Cotto is probably is a more rounded boxer. Chavez has the better beard.

 

Margarito is 5"11 .... a hard straight punching machine, he also has a crisp uppercut.

Cotto is 5"7 a wild hooking beast of a fighter who has good all round boxing skills.

Both these fighters punch output is very high. I see Cotto hooking the body, head down and hands down even further. This could be good for Marg who loves to volume punch with hard straights.

Man this fight would be hard to pick.... but i cant see Marg being dropped by body shots, i do see Cotto bleeding from his eyes and nose all fight long.

 

Marg has too much pride though and will try to fight inside. How is he going to use his straight punches in close Marcus. Cotto doesn't have wide hooks, he throws very compact tight punches. He is a quicker combination puncher then Marg as well. I think this will be a very bad fight for Marg, and I can see him getting hurt badly. His only real chance IMO is to catch Cotto on the way in, which will be tough to do. If natural counter punchers like Judah and Paulie struggled to do it consistently, I have my doubts that Marg can.

 

It'll be a great fight if it comes off. Will be interesting to see if Tony fights intelligently. 50/50 at this point in time. I'm hoping Tony beats Williams, but I'm not too convinced.

 

He should punch straight as he comes in. I dont want Marg to fight on the inside.

Mate i love to watch Cotto fight, i just think his chin will be his downfall. And he bleeds like a stuck pig

 

His chin is a worry I will admit. My heart was in my mouth for the Judah fight big time. But he showed that even when hurt he is very smart n the ring. Against Torres the majority of fighters wouldn't have made it out of the round. He defended and moved and made himself a hard target even though he was clearly hurt. I think although he can be hurt, he seems to be hard to finish which is a relief to some extent.

I didnt think body shots could really do that to a fighter, but the spot he got hit was perfect!!

 

The word intelligently has no meaning in the mexican language. Its all about pride and ego lol. Marg did the same against Cintron. HE stood toe 2 toe with him. In that case he won although he ate some leather to get his own on. Cotto IMO is a vey patient and smart fighter in the ring and will capitalise on Margs mistakes. If any of you guys get a chance watch a young Cotto vs Cezar Bazan I would recommend it. Bazan is a tough mexican who fights a lot like Margarito. Beat Stevie Johnston to win the title and had been in there with top opposition. Cotto just punished him. SHort tight combinations on the taller opponent. It was brutal. Went 11 rounds but it was a very damaging fight for Bazan. And this was a green Miguel Cotto, who has improved since that time. If you watch the fight this is what I will be expecting if Cotto fights Marg. Cotto will brutalize him. Just remember you heard it here first.

 

I think Marg will land punches... I just think Cotto will be the all round better fighter. Agree to disagree with you mate. Until Cotto wins anyway!!!

I like Cotto aswell and because he gets hurt in some of his fights makes it all the more interesting. He will one day turn out to be just another gatti :yep
