Guys, here is what Mtagwa said couple of days ago about facing the Cuban rocket Gamboa. He is actually saying that he did'nt train properly for the Lopez fight ( had only 2 or 3 weeks to train ) and that now he has really trained for Gamboa!

So, after Gamboa blasts him away today, what will you all fans and also Lopez think?

Mtagwa: "Gamboa has power and his speed is very good,” said Mtagwa. “This is going to be a good fight for me. Training is good, and I am ready to go the distance.”

“The training is good. This time I am ready. Last time (for Lopez) I only had two or three weeks to train because I hurt my ankle. I didn’t run as much. This time, I run every day. I am ready for this one,” said Mtagwa.

Mtagwa closed with some words for his fans:

“I want my fans to pray for me that I don’t get hurt. Please cheer for me to give me the energy to bring the title back to Philly. And I want to thank you for your support.”

Poor guy, he also wants us to pray for him so that he does'nt get seriously hurt, that part really touched me and I will pray for him not to end up badly hurt. But a fighter making a statement like that shows that he knows that he is facing a real Lion...

    Comments ??? Bring them on!!!

  2. I have a comment: Gamboa moved down to 126 when he was having a difficult time @ 130. How's that for a comment?

Gamboa hasn't impressed me much and I expect Mtagwa to give him hell.

As Juanma said Gamboa should have an easy night... Lopez said Mtagwa was so easy to hit, it made him abandon his game plan and exchange more often than needed. It was a learning experience for Juanma, but Gamboa should have no problem esp. since he has great speed.

Whats wrong with asking his fans to pray for his safety??? What did we just see with Viloria last night?......sometimes we've got to recognize that before boxers these men are humans :verysad

Also, some people don't realize that people of different cultures don;t actually get caught up in the bravado that some of us expect. He is just being genuine in my opinion.

I thinking he overtrained. Probably had never had a proper training camp, cut more weight than he needed to

Not many fights where someone does not get hit a single time. And it takes only one hit to hurt someone seriously. What is wrong with wanting safety in a fight.

Absolutely! You can win a fight and still die from it. We all know ANYTHING can happen in boxing. Hell, once a guy fell into the ring from out of the sky.

I think Gamboa is a bit reckless and should settle down. However, I feel that the man in your avatar is the Cuban to watch. He is a sure future champion and unless he went pro too late, a possible future ATG.
