This is for the vacant WBO super lightweight Youth title. Somebody's "oh" has got to go!

"El Increible" hails from Mexico where he racked up a 15-0-2 record with seven kayos...somewhat nonplussing when you consider the low opposition quality. "The Wolf" is, aside from being the home fighter (sort of, in the sense of being Kazakh, although he does hail from about 1300 miles away in the opposite corner of the country) the one signed to MTK and being co-showcased along with his younger brother and fellow unbeaten 140lb prospect Rakhat and training buddy Kamshybek Bisenbaevich Kunkabayev. Neither of the boys from Aktobe carry nearly as much hype or had nearly as strong a run in the amateur game as the southpaw cruiserweight, however.

Kunk is actually the reason this card even got on my radar in the first place; originally he was supposed to face South African fringe contender Johnny "The Hurricane" Muller in what should've been a marginal step up for him in the pros (at worst a lateral move from the likes of Radchenko, Emurlaev, and Steven Ward) but there was a late substitution and he instead fought Uzbek journeyman Farrux Ulmas Ogli Juraev. Kunkabayev forced a ref's mercy stoppage on the fat midget (5′7½″ to his 6'3") in four minutes flat in the co-main event. Ho-hum, stay-busy, nothing more.

    Round 1

Enríquez is getting inside with a sideways dip at the waist lunging in on bent knees, and then jabbing or hooking the cheek of Seitzhanov. Very few counters yet from Seitzhanov, covering up and getting a read on Enríquez. Busy jab from Enríquez walking in the front door, backing Seitzhanov up and marking his face up with red welts already. Enríquez is working a nice short uppercut on the inside as Seitzhanov grinds to a halt before heel-toeing into the ropes and tries meeting him with counters from a tight guard. Seitzhanov's timing just a beat or so behind, not really getting much clean on Enríquez, just a few grazing overhands in the pocket.

    10-9 Enríquez

Commentator says he would "just about" give that one to Enríquez on work rate.

 You don't say. Nothing even remotely close about it. :nono: Splenda Ray has come out cold.

    Round 2

Enríquez is bullying Seitzhanov around the ring - which is quite large, by the way, even accounting for them being light welters - and continuing to work the body with hooks and redden the face with jabs. Seitzhanov doesn't look uncomfortable, backstepping calmly and throwing counters in combination as he goes - but is still getting severely outworked and his shots aren't cleaner or harder, either. Ring generalship and initiative have been firmly the property of Enríquez from the opening bell with no yield after six minutes of action.

    10-9 Enríquez

    Round 3

Enríquez is swarming in close and then happy to drop anchor with his legs flared out and base wide, posting up directly in front of Seitzhanov and swiveling in with lead left uppercuts sliding from his waistband up between the Kazakh's arms. Seitzhanov tries jabbing his way out, but Enríquez is able to get under or block the jab and cut the distance again immediately. Seitzhanov reduced to clinching and then retreating behind swatting hook flurries with both hands over Enríquez's head after letting go. Enríquez is rushing in and jabbing at the face. Seitzhanov trades with him playing matador, landing a few jabs of his own, but then gets rushed into the ropes and tries some low-hands slick defensive maneuvers. He just about manages to get away with it.

    10-9 Enríquez

    30-27 Enríquez

Ya know, before I found this web site I had no idea how much televised boxing I missed while I was at work. IB, thanks for doing this. Wish I could join in.

    Round 4

Enríquez just bashing him. Seitzhanov can't find a way to get his respect. Lots of clinching from the Kazakh now. Enríquez is stepping in and smacking him across the orbital bone with hooks, landing just above the knuckle padding as Seitzhanov favors his chin with both palms clamped over its flanks. Seitzhanov very ineffective at hooking in the phonebooth, everything sailing out behind Enríquez's skull. Enríquez keeping a very low center of gravity and digging in the body.

    10-9 Enríquez

    Round 5

Things getting a bit chippy now. They clinch and Enríquez in frustration lands a rabbit punch. Seitzhanov retaliates with a low blow, and Enríquez "milks it" per the commentators, but not even for half a minute. Seitzhanov clinching now with his wrists curving like the beak of a predatory bird over the shoulders of Enríquez and into his armpits from behind. When he isn't clinching, he is getting strapped with solo hooks and two-pieces on the face as Enríquez surges up from a crouch in front of him. Seitzhanov with another low blow, an uppercut directly on the protective cup. The ref gives Seitzhanov either a very stern warning or a point deduction - pretty sure the former, but thin ice now. Ref is no longer in any mood for nonsense from either guy.

    10-9 Enríquez

    Round 6

Enríquez is winging big lead arm-punch hooks on the front-foot, confident but untidier and with signs of tiring. Seitzhanov for his part is taking his own turns coming forward with a high guard up to collect jabs and combos, looking to pot shot with his own jab while stalking but too gun shy, waiting too long, and getting pieced up with that jab consistently detonating on his upper lip making him flinch & blink. All he is accomplishing by coming forward is eating more leather before the clinches, honestly. He does get in a nice looping right on Enríquez's left temple just before the bell.

    10-9 Enríquez, closer

British commentators have given Ray the last two rounds. I don't really agree with that whatsoever. Sure, the work of Enríquez has gotten sloppier but there hasn't been nearly enough from Seitzhanov.

"This is a great fight, this. What a competitive fight."

Both statements are wildly hyperbolic. These commentators are just bored (after what I'm sure was probably a card full of straightforward mismatches) and making up drama for themselves from whole cloth as coping mechanism the way Teddy Atlas used to do, methinks. :sisi1
