Man, after getting one more mother****er diving with his helmet into my knee (and thereby ****ing it up yet again) playing football I got fed up with it and decided to take a break from it. I haven't been able to walk properly the last month because of it, and I was already planning to go to Thailand, but had to postpone the trip. In the meantime I've trained some grappling and done what I could as far as MT training goes, and now I'm leaving on the 2nd of December to train and maybe also compete in Thailand. This video is from yesterday, I was unable to kick with my left leg. Today I was able to kick with less pain, so there is progress at least. [yt]Y-jOVGkbwoI[/yt] Anybody else going to/are staying at Pattaya from December to February? Would be cool to maybe have a training partner over there.
You are a beast bro :good I like you switch kicks and teeps alot and you seem to focus alot on checking during your bagwork which is great practice. I dont do Muay Thai very often so im pretty medicore at it its more like really good hands and bad but not awful kicks, clinch and so on :yep Doubtful ill be in Thailand anytime soon but plan on it somebody have a good time.
Nice work man, sucks about the knee. Not trying to get into a dick measuring contest or anything, but I do a lot of bag kicking as well, was wondering how much do you weigh? the bag? what is a typical non-injured bag workout of yours like? (rounds, drills, technique, ??) just to put things into perspective
Thanks, guys. No problem, mate. I weigh around 200lbs at the moment, usually I'm at around 206-210lbs. The bag weighs around 110lbs or more I think, but I don't really have any idea. As far as my bag training goes, it varies alot by what I feel I need to work on. I don't focus much on round times, when I work on techniques I work them till they feel right and rest when the technique is starting to lack. Sometimes I have sessions in which I focus on alot of hard hitting, some times I practice a spesific technique or combination. I go alot by feel though, I need to be motivated in the sense that the work I do is to perfect something, to be able to apply more power for a certain type of movement. If I'm inspired enough, the bag work can last for many rounds. I don't pick a set number of rounds and a round time and just swat away at the bag just mainly for the sake of conditioning anymore like I did back in my boxing days. It's boring, and I've never felt like it has given me anything except from being able to fight shitty for an extended period of time. That might just be me though, that'd probably work better for others. What is funny here though is that I feel I have better technique and ring savvy than I did when I was training it everyday. For the last few years I've only been playing football and weightlifting (olympic style). I think alot about fighting is about clearing one's mind and getting in touch with one's instincts. When you get too adapted into a routine, you lose that "animalistic" feel on how you appropriately apply force to a moving target.
thanks for the info. I know what you mean about a certain technique/combo feeling like it is really 'clicking' after a lot of repetition. And I definitely feel sloppier when I'm doing rounds, I focus on trying to stay sharp and fast during the rounds. Its a great workout hitting the bag, and I feel a lot of more mainstream martial practitioners leave it out
So are you in Thailand now or did it get postponed? Either way you looked great there; the North Atlantic counties have such a cool style of Thaiboxing. Also, what level of football do you play? What level of American football is there in Norway period?
Hmm, I haven't really thought of the North Atlantic having a spesific style of Muay Thai before. I'm not in Thailand right now, but I'm going now on the 2nd of December. I was going to go on the 29th of October, but I jacked up my knee. It's like semi-pro. There is a fairly high level here in Norway despite it being a very small country. E.g. we beat the Team USA 28-12, a team from the states consisting of College and Semi-Pro players travelling around the world competing. I also play on the National Team, we took Silver in the European Championships back in '07. I play as a tailback, mostly fullback the season that was (still got the most amount of yards in the league though), but I'm thinking of gaining some more weight and switch to linebacker. I'm sick of getting my legs hacked and wrecked by gang tackles.
Well I guess it's not one specific style, but Lithuania and the Baltic counties have one and the Scandanavian have one.
Haha, yeah! No, I've always put alot of focus on ball protection, maybe that's why I always end up ****ing up my knee, because I don't let up. Last time I got speared in the knee right outside the endzone, but still managed to secure the ball and jump with one leg to get the TD. Yeah, I see what you mean. Could be partly because there is more focus on boxing in the western world compared to the east that they differ from the "original" Thai style.
Grappling training has been going well, I've also practiced my kicking more and the knee is coming around. Haven't had any noteworthy amount of sparring though, see if I can get some good stuff in Thailand when I get there. From what I've learned though is that the Thais aren't really heavy on doing sparring? I leave this Tuesday, I can't friggin wait.
