One real big up side to a Ufc monopoly(I know they dont have one yet but they are getting closer) What say you ESB? other articles: (or just use Google search your damn self!) http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/10052011/58/zuffa-set-offer-fighters-accident-insurance.html http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2011/5/9...insurance-policy-conference-call-live-updates http://www.mmalinker.com/news/view/4195/UFC-offers-fighters-health-insurance
"Its interesting that the same day this is announced, the main event fighters for UFC 130 go out with injuries…and are not covered by the health plan because it does not go into effect until June 1" http://www.mmalinker.com/news/view/4195/UFC-offers-fighters-health-insurance The insurance coverage was not the reason behind Edgar vs Maynard fight being cancelled, but in the future, we might see cancellations happen more and more. If their is a question who this will benefit it will be the fighters and not the fans (considering it will make fighters more likely to cancel fights if they have injuries) I for one would rather see the fighters have more security- as I suspect most fans would as well.
"A step in the right direction" is exactly right. Hopefully benifits grow at the same rate the ufc grows.
Insurance is great news. Now the UFC just need to ensure that every time someone fights for their brand, a percentage goes into a pension. I can't think of any major examples yet of a fighter losing all his money but its best to be prepared.
if barnett wants to make some dough he better make nice with dana. we all have bills to pay after all.
