I thought that you would say something like that. :thumbsup Predictably,I agree to differ. As good as Witherspoon was,a 212 superbly conditioned Muhammad Ali of the second Ken Norton bout would n't have found Tim as hard a nut to crack as he did Ken. Ali outboxes a tough and game Witherspoon,to win a clear verdict on the cards.
Why bother posting a thread asking someone's opinion if you already have it fixed in your mind to disagree?
I haven't seen Witherspoon v Page 1984. I'd really like it if someone can upload it to youtube. :good I know 'spoon looked very good against Holmes, and relatively sloppy against Thomas. I have no idea how he looks with Page.
Muhammad Ali's greatest achiles heel was the left hook... Witherspoon's biggest strength was his right, which was better suited to for a 33 year old Holmes, and one who wasn't as good as a 1973 version of Ali, who had yet to beat George Foreman among all fighters... Tim's style was troublesome for many, but he'd need experience that went beyond fighting Greg Page and Renaldo Snipes.
Apart from the difference between the punching specialities mentioned by mr magoo,I suppose that they are as near as dammit. Witherspoon did n't have Norton's superb conditioning though. Nor was he as strong, imo.
I thought Norton was more of a right hand puncher than a left-hooker too. Both of them could dig with the left hook though, to be fair. Esp. to the body.
I recall reading a Larry Holmes interview, when the Easton Assassin said that Witherspoon remeinded him of Norton,a little bit.
OK, my memory is a little foggy about tim vs. greg, but tim of the holmes fight outboxes and knocks out ali late. He was beautiful in that fight, very slick at parrying the jab, and aggressive enough . And Holmes was always better than ali!
