Probably the best 70's version of Ali v the best ever Lewis, imo. Who takes it ? I would take Ali to win over the distance in a very good, competitive fight. Lewis' jab would cause Muhammad problems,at times but Ali's own would cause Lennox's eyes to puff up,and consequently nulify the Brit's effectiveness over the last few rounds. If it were a 15 rounder, the ref may decide to stop it. Over 12,it would definitely go to the cards.
Lewis UD 1974 Ali wasn't the best version of The Greatest. Ali pre exile was at his best and I think that he didn't even peaked. 1974 Ali was stronger and wiser but lost some speed. Lewis 1997 was smarter than Foreman 1974 and I doubt that Lennox would gas out in the middle rounds. Lewis has the reach, power, ring generalship and infighting skills to wear down Ali. I give Ali better chances if it's 15 rounds but in 12 r it's 60/40 Lewis.
I agree that the '74 Ali was n't THE best version of him,but my post mentions that it was the best SEVENTIES version. I made it this way,as I thought that a 1967 version against Lennox would be a foregone conclusion.
Lewis UD. Ali's decline in foot speed was noticeable enough that he struggled badly with a good jab. Lewis I feel could impose his size and that jab and win a boring decision.
Best '70s version of Ali was '74 Ali? :rofl These Ali nuthuggers are unbelievable. A 3 year lay-off with no evidence of decline on film ... but Frazier faced a shot, washed-up old tramp, prime Ali would have whooped him, it must be the case, nobody can go through 3 years without declining. And then he actually gets better for 3 years afterwards? Give me a ****ing break. atsch
Lewis takes a UD here for me , Ali cannt out strength Lewis in teh way he held down Foremans head and pushed him away he also looses his reach advantage and Manny Steward isnt going to let Lewis gas himself out.
After FOTC Ali became sharper than he was in '71. The Ali who beat Norton and Frazier in the second fights may not have been as good as he was in 1967,but he shook off the ring rust and became better than he was in 1971.
The things that would make me lean against Lewis (who was an offensive monster) was that Lewis never stopped anyone past the 8th rd. and he could be out-hustled. Also who was the best prime fight Lewis fought Razor Rudduck. The 2- one punch KO's Lewis suffered and the fact that Lennox never got off the floor to win also tell me he really never swam out of deep water something that Ali did do and it is this mental aspect of overcoming adversity that give Ali the strongest edge.
Ali would win. I think he would have made Lewis look silly. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFGql0b4jZQ[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i9yiUBVpOI[/ame]
Lennox got early rounds and if he lands something big, he may KD or KO Ali. If not, this fight goes for Ali with possible late KO or clear UD.
