The only Frazier-Ali documentary I would absolutely recommend is the original feature about the 1971 fight called "The Fighters - Ali v Frazier", shot in the "Woodstock" style of documentary film-making of the time, it features excellent footage of the pre-fight shenanigans, no commentary, just fly-on-the-wall stuff.

The last half of the film is just pure commentary-free, movie camera footage of the fight, the full 15 rounds.

It was a pleasant surprise when I bought it and played it. I was only expecting the fight, with the normal TV footage. It's a lot better than that.

It's this one (actually released in 1974):

    [ame]http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fighters-Muhammad-Ali-Joe-Frazier/dp/B00004R6IP/ref=sr_1_22?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1299272495&sr=1-22[/ame]

Currently unavailable on UK Amazon though.

Imdb has not much on it either, but did provide a link to a Time magazine review :

Defamation this is. Pure defamation. My love for Ali is not much greater than Addie's for Winona. I swear it's true.

Oh, I can't remember. It was first transmitted by CH4, then by HBO. That's when things really started kicking off. I'd go so far as to say that that documentary changed this forum forever

well personally i am a fan of ali.. but i think a lot of guys who dislike him make a mistake.. they can't seperate his personallity from his achievements..
no matter what you may think of him as a person.. his taunting of frazier.. the muslim ****.. refusing the army..
FACT remains.. he is the best HW of all time..
he has from the heavyweights the best resume.

I'm a big Ali FAN.yes. In my book,it's vastly different from being a FANBOY. Fanboys tend to see only the good, and ignore the flaws which make the person concerned into some kind of saint. As much as I love Ali,I recognise the things that he did wrong, such as taking those last two fights as well as the Inoki farce, and being a fanboy himself of Elijah Muhammad. After all, without these flaws our idols simply would n't be bloody human.

I think the recent doc on "Thrilla in Manilla" was like that. It seemed like they couldn't get enough of Ali.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To contribute to the thread, Ali was a great fighter so of course he'll have guys who could not get enough of him or guys who did not care for his style which is fine.

He fought in one of if not the greatest times for the heavyweight era in the 70's and came out on top over a lot of worthy contenders and fellow greats such as Foreman, Frazier, and Norton. There's no denying his greatness and no need to discredit any fighter really. I love him as a fighter but thought he was a jerk, similar to how I feel about Robinson.

Ali is arguably the greatest heavyweight of all times but I don't have him over guys like Armstrong & Robinson. Greb & Langford? I don't know but all these fighters are great so I'll leave it at that.
