Spinks beat a version of Ali that was shot to hell and under-prepared. It has about as much bearing on this discussion as Wlad's fight with Purrity.

Yes, Let's look at Wlad's conquerors in more detail.

    Ross Puritty (A cherry-pick)

By the time he fought Wlad, Ross had already lost to:

    Cleveland Woods
    Alexander Miroschnichenko
    John Sargent
    Dereck Isaman
    King Ipitan
    Will Hilton
    Brian Nielsen
    Kirk Johnson
    Hasim Rahman
    Michael Grant
    Corrie Sanders
    Larry Donald
    Chris Byrd

    These are all losses.

So basically, poor Ross was a stepping stone for any up and coming heavyweight, and lost to some guys I've never even heard of. Ross, to put it bluntly, was basically a can. A tough can, but a can.

Wlad was 24-0 when he fought this guy. He was NOT green. Hasim Rahman was only 12-0 when he beat Puritty. Kirk Johnson was only 7-0. There is NO excuse.

    Corrie Sanders (cherry pick)

I have already talked about Corrie Sanders on Classic. I've seen nearly all his fights and some of his amateur fights.

Long before he even fought Wlad, Corrie was on the decline. He trainer, Harold Volbrecht, constantly complained that Sanders was not spending time in the gym and was training only when he felt like it. Sanders had fallen in love with the sport of golf and had become a scratch golfer. That should tell you about his level of interest in the fight game.
Get this straight: Sanders was on the decline when he fought Wlad. He was going on 38 years old. He was a 'name' opponent with some credibility but was on the decline.

That is the only reason Klitschko took this fight.

Besides Wlad, the biggest win for Sanders was either small and old Bobby Czyz, a faded Bert Cooper, or...haha...stepping stone Ross Puritty. He had a good win over the shot Johnny du Plooy very early in his career, but that's it.
He feasted on cruiserweights for a good deal of his career. Journeymen like Mike Rouse, Anthony Wade, Mike Dixon and Nikolay Kulpin took him the distance.

Klitschko was 40-1 and fighting in his back yard against Sanders.

    Lamon Brewster

Prior to fighting Wlad, Lamon's biggest win was against stepping stone Everett 'Bigfoot' Martin.
He had lost to Clifford Ettienne, who beat him over 10. A shot Tyson had managed to dispose of Ettienne in one round. So no wins over great opposition for sure.

This is the murderer's row that beat Wlad. Collectively, the biggest wins on their ledger at the time any fought Wlad was either old, small and shot Bobby Czyz, Everett Martin or shot Bert Cooper.

So please...don't fall for this hype that these guys were monsters. They weren't. The spin doctors will try and convince you otherwise, but don't let them fool you.

I'm not trying to disparage Puritty, Brewster or Sanders. They had some nice qualities as fighters, but they were chosen precisely because they were beatable. They were seen as stepping stones.
NONE have a win over any real quality heavyweight, except for Wlad. Think about that.

And to even insinuate that they were not leagues below Ali.

Are you aware that Lamon Brewster regards Lionel Butler as a bigger puncher than Wlad? He had a 49% KO ratio.

That right there tells you everything you need to know about your shitty statistics.

Damn straight Elroy. You definitely do not want to go there. Ali lost to Olympic Gold Medalists, all-time greats and champions. All when already past his best.

Wlad lost to cans and stepping stones. All in his prime.

"I’ve been asked a few times before who the hardest puncher I ever met was. I must say, It wasn’t anyone I actually fought, it was a guy I sparred. A guy named Lionel Butler – wow, he hit so hard it was ridiculous! I sparred Lennox Lewis, Michael Moorer, Frans Botha – all hard punchers. But no-one hit like Butler. Why he never made it? It’s real simple: Coke. As soon as he began to make it, he looked to score some drugs. Had it not been for that, I’m sure Lionel would have been champ." - Lamon Brewster

I won't discredit any boxer champ or not. The guys Wlad fought were clearly a level below Ali's comp.

Ali was embarrassed by journeyman cruiserweight Spinks
Joe Frazier was undersized, overrated and shot - and Frazier still won the first fight while Ali was on top of his game
Ken Norton exposed Ali with his limited boxing ability
Wlad would have made it a short night with any of those guys- he needs
to get respect here. Amazing how lopsided this poll is

    Another poor analogy from you.

Ali was past prime when he fought Norton, and with regards to your previous post, Frazier and Wlad are nothing alike.

When will it sink in that styles make fights?

Wlad may have crushed Doug Jones. But that wouldn't necessarily have meant that he'd have the same success against Ali, as what Jones had.

George Foreman crushed Frazier. But Ali would always have had more trouble against Frazier.

Just like he annihilated Haye right?

Wlad is only a fraction bigger in height and reach.

Ali was more skilled, he threw more variations of shots, he had superior footwork, and was he much faster.
