More of Muhammad Ali with Mark Grogin,

'I know I should fight Kenny again, but I won't. It's too hard on my body.
The Boxing Oragnizations can do what they want, but they do not control
me. I know my career in the ring is nearly over, but I think I can squeeze
in a fight or two for the fans. I honestly feel bad for Kenny, he fought a
good fight, but somebody has to win and somebody has to lose.
It could have gone either way.'

I`m going to have to watch the 3rd fight in full, I`ve seen extended highlights but about 4 or 5 full rounds were missing.... Norton clearly won the first, Ali won the second in a close but clear win.

Ali of the 60s, specifically 64-67, takes about 10 or 11 rounds off Norton in a 15 round fight IMO... the first half of fight 2 shows you the blueprint as to how that fight would go down.

The fight announcers, all had Kenny Norton winning comfortably.

Some by as much as a 10-5-0 score.

And this can very easily be the difference between the great fighters and teh good fighters. Fans today are so keen to put aside officia judges decisions, when in reality that is the name of the game. It is a shame, because it seems almost an unwritten law nowadays that at least one and sometimes more of the judges appears to be on the take, but impressing the judges is what wins the fights and earns the money.

To me, Ali's admissions show why he is one of, if not the greatest. He would do anything to win out there. That includes lying on the ropes, looking bad for 2 and a half minutes, taking shots to implement a plan, making faces to influence judges and fool opponents, all that mattered was winning and he did all that he could to try to win.

true. and in context, he was resourceful. this was no longer ali the boxer, this was ali the showman. he NEEDED tricks to win. the prime ali, the greatest heavyweight of all time, needed only his feet, fists and head to win

Well those fight announcers must be as blind as the judges who gave it to Ali (according to you) so why not attack them with the same vigour or does that not fit into your 'agenda' SP?:D

louis lost the first fight against walcott and won the 2nd, much like ali lost the first to norton then won the 2nd, if walcott had got louis for a 3rd time i think he would of won.

    What Agenda,,,,,,,,

The 'three' announcers - Dick Young, Red Smith and Wayne Magee
all had it for Kenny Norton.

But this is not about that, the judges admittingly leaned toward
Muhammad Ali in all the 'close rounds', instead of scoring the Round 'Even'.

There's film of Ali in the post-fight press conference on youtube with reporters saying "Why do you look gloom like you lost." Ali basically goes, "Yeah, I'm the loser. I lost."

Norton would have beaten a prime Cautious Play better than he beat Ali , Cautious Play was not as durable as Ali was and would have had 2 settle down in d last rds of a 15 rder , when Norton would have possibly taken him out or at least knocked him down more than 1ce .

This is if it was Play playing

Norton won all their fights, anyone saying different is not facing reality. Promoters and reporters wanted Ali to get decisions , he was their money maker.

I'm aware of this Luke. My first point is that I believe Ali should have given Norton a rematch as their 3rd fight was for THE TITLE, and Norton was denied the lineal title, justice should have ensured a rematch for Kenny.

My second point is that Louis realised there was enough controversy in the first JJW fight that he needed to put the record straight against JJW, which Louis did emphatically in their rematch. In his autobiography Louis stated that if he had won the first JJW fight clearly he would have retired then and there, but because of the controversy he felt he had to rematch JJW - Louis did not want to retire with the controversy hanging over his head.

It seems to me that Ali did not have the same sense of honour in rematching Norton as Louis did in rematching Walcott; I have felt this for many years...

    Mark Grogin asking Muhammad Ali,

'Muhammad, if you don't feel good about the victory, do you think you
    could fight Kenny again.'

Muhammad Ali, 'No, I can't keep fighting him. Even if I win, I know I cannot
knock him out or beat him decisively. His style is too difficult for me. And if
you ask Kenny, I think he will say the same thing about me. We can fight
10 times, and all the results will be the same, split right down the middle.'

'My guess, is if we fought again, he would win. Then everybody would want
us to fight again, a 5th time.'
