More of Muhammad Ali with Mark Grogin,

'If people think I can't punch anymore, they are wrong. I can still
punch. Look, I hit Kenny with everthing I had and more. But, Kenny
is so good at rolling and slipping the punches, that it looked like I
can't hit with power. Any man that gets hit by a big 225 lb. fighter
will fall if the punch hits the right spot.'

'Look, Kenny is solid and can take a great punch. Forget about the
Foreman fight. That night it was just one of those things, and it
could have happened to me to. Anybody can be taken out, believe
    me.'

Pepe's threads are very entertaining whether they're factually accurate of course is another matter. However when you get down to
It he's just another obsessive Ali hater.

More on Muhammad Ali with Mark Grogin,

'If I fight Kenny again, should I ask for more money. If I ask for
$10,000,000 - then they will all say that I'm only after the money.'

'After I beat Joe Frazier, the only thing anybody would say is when
am I going to fight Norton. Nobody gave me any credit for beating
Joe. The only thing I heard was when am I going to fight Norton.
Now they want me to fight him again. Everybody said he was going
to destroy me, so should I fight him again so he can destroy me.'

I personally don't buy this at all. I lived through the 70's and this does not in any way sound like Ali. If this was indeed an actual article from 1976 its made up by the author. This is not Ali talking.

Red Smith and Dick Young were Ali haters so factor this into their scoring. This was a close fight. I will say once again I don't believe this is a real interview. Those are supposed to be quotes from Ali but no way is this Ali talking. All BS.

 Don't follow pepe so can't speak for the Ali hater part but indeed his interviews he presents are entertaining true or not. At least he adds something constructive which is lacking heavily on ESB.

More of Muhammad Ali with Mark Grogin,

'Do you want me to say Kenny hurt me in the last round. I know
people want me to say yes, and that if the fight went another
minute he would have knocked me out. Who's to say that I
wouldn't have been knocked down, and then gotten up to
finish the fight. Doesn't anybody think I would know what to
do if I got knocked down.'

'I guess you want me to fight Kenny again, just like everybody
else. I guess I can't fight anybody else, except Ken Norton.'

    There was no ONE Ali.

Ali was several different personalities depending on who he was trying to con.

I agree. The second fight was very close, but Muhammad deserved the victory. As has so often been said,it came down to Ali's strong start and getting the final round in the bag.

More of Muhammad Ali with Mark Grogin,

'I think I have two or three more fights left in me. I have to be careful
saying that, because I always want to say that my next fight is my last
fight, as I know it gives me an advantage in negotiating. I always want
the people into thinking that it's the last time they will see me. You always
want them begging for more, which they always do.'

I may be wrong here but i cant for the life of me understand why Ali would give an interview and then proceed to say things like this. I wouldnt be surprised if he thought this privately, but hes hardly gonna come out and say this openly (i believe). Who would?

    Source please

I think the third Ali vs Norton fight was pointless anyway.

Basically, the last time we saw Ali as a great fighter was Frazier III in Manila. That was absolutely the last fight Ali should have had.

After that, it was just the ghost of Ali in the ring. Mark Kram observed for Norton III, that although Ali was in good shape physically (unlike being overweight in the Young fight) he was slipping badly as a fighter. Kram noted Ali's jab was only a flick, and he threw just one decent combination in the entire fight.

If anything Ali-Norton III reflects badly on Kenny because he should have been able to impose his will much more decisively on this faded and shopworn version of Ali.

Norton kicks himself to this day that although he had the reserves left in his tank, he didn't go into that final round giving it his all. He made the mistake of listening to his corner when they told him he had the fight won and to just coast to the finish.
