I also lived in NY....now NJ. I also attended this fight. My friend's flocked to the PPV sites in NJ rather than pay to see the fight in person specifically because of the economy at that time. My family was well off like most that did attend.

    The 'well off'

Do you remember after the fight, how the 'animals' ripped the place apart,
and went down to ringside and stole all the journalists type-writers, and
took all the camera's and tele-communications equipment.

Those people weren't the 'well off', they were the 'street thugs'.

Personally, I had no interest in the fight. I just couldn't stand to watch
another Ali 'borefest' of him moving like a 'dancing bear' and throwing
    pillow-type left jabs.

It was like watching a 'bad movie'.

Bottom line you insinuated wrongly that the small crowd was indicative of noone wanting to see the fight. Millions went to ppv sites all over the world to see this most aticipated bout.

    Houdini,,,,,,,,

If you were there, I hope you didn't buy a ticket.

Because they were giving them away all day, prior to the fight.

Norton was poison to Ali just like Tim Spoon was hard to digest for Holmes.:deal

Styles make fights... Norton and Spoon were close in styles and had certain patterns in the ring, as Ali and Holmes were similar in many ways...
    :deal

Still, having said that, I still feel Ali edged Norton in '76 and that Holmes beat Spoon by a close shave in '83...
    :good:hey

No it doesn't. Knowledgable boxing historians from the last 20 years rate Ali or Louis as the all time greatest. Guys like you are the ones that see greatness in walking statues like the Klitchco brothers.

U mean ignorant Republican in their spirit boxing historians .

    D Klitschkos , Wladimir especially r far from gr8 but this is a h2h list as opposed 2 p4p .

p4p it would have been more like :

    Mike McCallum
    Charley Burley
    Oliver McCall
    Roberto Duran
    Jorge Castro
    David Tua
    Salvador Sanchez
    Julio Cesar Chavez
    Shane Mosley

    Eder Jofre
    Michael Carbajal
    Juan LaPorte
    Jorge Lujan
    Melchor Cob Castro
    Tommy West
    Richard Ihetu

    Arnold Cream

    Ezzard Charles
    Walker Smith Jr.
    Eddie Booker
    Archie Wright
    Jimmy Bivins
    Orlin Norris
    Chris Byrd
    Reggie Johnson
    Jose Luis Lopez

    Pernell Whitaker
    Curtis Sheppard
    Joey Maxim

    Joey Archer
    Ronald Wright
    Dwight Davison

    ..
    ..

probably still needs correction and i wonder how real were Canzoneri's , Henry Jackson's , McLarnin's , Ross' , Joyce's , Angott's fights because i read that on some occasions at least some of them carried / were carried by their opponents and i believe as usual that it happened much more than most of u will ever admit that was possible .

Tell me where u c a Klitschko in my ATG list

and just in case , this is my contemporary P4P list :

    1. Pacquiao
    2. Marquez
    3. Froch
    4. Donaire
    5. Abraham
    6. Martinez
    7. Haye
    8. Darchiniyan

Just because i have not seen much of Gamboa probably due 2 a lack of fights that matter of his in my disposal
also i m not very familiar with 2day's scene 2 its depth

Tell me where do u c a Klitschko

    Mark Grogin,

"It was 'not' the way for The Greatest to go out. He no longer is the 'People's Champion',
as many have felt that his fight in Yankee Stadium was 'one of the worst' in history.

"The judges scored the bout in 'make up mode'. After scoring many of the early rounds
for Ken Norton, it seemed like that they had to play 'make up', to keep the fight close
in their minds. Ken Norton had the Championship stolen from him, just like the many
people on the streets that had their 'fight tickets' stolen out of their hands from the
thieves circling the ticket holders before they entered the stadium.'

'No friends, Muhammad Ali is no longer the 'People's Champion', he now is a very close
friend of the officials scoring his fights.'

    Markie,

You can't have it both ways 'entertaining' but 'sad'.

Unfortunately, this is the truth as seen by Mark Grogin, and many others.

As has been written before,Ali had slipped considerably from when he fought Norton the second time, three years previously. We all know that his last LEGACY fight was Frazier III. And yes,Muhammad was indeed given a lucky break by the judges after the Yankee Stadium bout, but it was n't a robbery !
