Yes '66 was one hell of an impressive year for Ali. I hadn't really thought about how much travelling he had done in that single year and the hostile territory factor.
It's Ramadan..the ****er's starving so he's taking it out on everyone. Either that or he's secretly eaten a bacon butty and feels guilty. ps. Great years: Henry Armstrong. 1938. 14 fights, undefeated, two world titles. :bbb
It was a remarkable run. Like with Joe Louis in the so called bum of the month phase he had a B grade division but did everything he could with it. People are often too slow to give credit to champions who raise the bar in terms of frequency and quality of title defences.
I think that is a possibility. I don't know that Ali would have ever had an easy time against Holmes - prime vs prime of course.
In terms of having a great year Sam Langford deserves a mention. 1903 was basically his 1st year as a professional (He only fought once in 1902) and yet he managed to fight at least 26 times. Nothing unusual in that you might say, considering the frequency of bouts fighters had at the time. However, if you consider he was able to meet and defeat the great Joe Gans in this very year despite the small matter of it being his second fight in as many days. Plus the fact that those two fights occured in different cities, then Sam Langford's run in 1903 definitley deserves a mention. Having said that 1904 was also an exceptional year for Langford, fighting 14 times including bouts against Jack Blackburn and Barbados Joe Walcott. The verdict of a draw against Walcott was reportedly a robbery that Langford won without question. Actually, the fact that it's Ramadan and I'm hungry means I have less energy to swat little disease spreading flies like you. If I wasn't hungry I'd be less docile and have much more energy to put a racist like you in your place.
