To be fair to Chuvalo ,he also took the fight on short notice,[14 days],the original opponent match was with Terrell ,but that fell out because of some of the "faces "in Ernies managerial setup.

Well Dempsey didnt take on the type of foes that Armstrong or Benny took. imo. Armstrong's best year was perhaps 1937. 27 wins, and most of em by ko. And most of thsos guys were world beaters. I relly have a hard time comparing say Armstrong's best year with Ali's 66 imo.

looking over Armstrong's record, his 1938 is impressive also.

Wins over Ross, Wright, Arizmendi, and Garcia are better than Ali's 66 lol.

never the less if a modern day heavyweight champ did what ali did they would probably be in raptures over him.

It wasn't a goal as the whole of the ball didn't cross the line.

...and Germany won the world cup in 1974 with the help of a penalty that referee Jack Taylor later admitted that he shouldn't have given. :good

Yeah, poor Germany. They've never had the rub of the green in big tournaments. :nut

True, I'm not saying that England haven't been paid back in full.

My personal favourite was that glorious day in Mexico on 22nd June '86.
England being humbled by the great Diego Armando Maradona.

2-1 is hardly with one dodgy goal is hardly 'humbling'.

:D One goal may have been dodgy, but the other where he managed to make a fool of the whole England defence, well that was just sublime. I say it was humbling because England (not a bad team at the time) were humbled by essentially a one man team.

In fact the 1st goal Mano De Dios was also an amazing sight to behold.

So he played defence and in goal too? Wow. Some player he must have been.
