Great win for sure, but Ali was a 3-1 underdog. That's hardly "dead man walking" odds.

I had Ali winning comfortably when he knocked George out. It wasn't some magical come from behind performance from a 25-1 longshot.

Of course Ali wasn't going to beat the younger, stronger, bigger Foreman by outmuscling him, what Ali did was a masterpiece. That Foreman got psyched out being in Africa and not being mentally ready for the fight is just an excuse. If he felt he wasn't ready he shouldn't of had taken the fight. Foreman was a two fisted juggernaut and fought aggressively, any boxer's nightmare. Like Duran, when motivated, Ali was unstoppable.

Foreman used exactly the same strategy he used for every other fight

Ali simply outdid him...If Foreman didn't gas hard then it would have been a close fight.

Ali took them bodyshots like a boss.

I think it was a big win. Made even bigger by the fact Ali was loved and foreman not so much. When he did win and the way he did it. . It was like the hero beat the villain when nobody thought he could. You could even make a point that foreman beating moorer was a bigger win. It's unprecedented. Nobody regains a sports title 20 years after they lose it. Especially boxing.

Ali was bigger than boxing. People loved him. . Most people. I was ten when my dad told me Ali was the champ again. It was like Santa was real again

But, the fact that he was able to diffuse George's assault so completely, pick him apart so clinically and then dispatch him in the manner that he did makes the win a whole lot more impressive.

I'd still give the edge to Douglas over Tyson, but the Rumble certainly deserves to be in the discussion.

Given that Foreman was undefeated and pretty much demolished everyone. Muhammad Ali has struggeld vs Norton twice and has a decision vs Fraizer.

Foreman had knocked out both Fraizer and Nortin inside 2-3 rounds or something crazy like that.

Muhammad was a huge underdog and even more so he fought in a way no one expected.

Great win but not the greatest. Foreman fought dumb and Ali's experience really exposed Foreman. Douglas over Tyson and Schmeling over Louis are better wins at heavyweight.
Louis over Schmeling is the most important win in the divsions history.

Margarito beating Cotto was the best win ever

Definitely true. Right on the eve of WWII. That fight gave hope to oppressed Jews in the Third Reich, and oppressed African Americans at home as well. It also legitimized Louis' title reign. In terms of historical/political and global significance, that fight has no equal.

Oh yeah, certainly an impressive win and a historic level one. At that level you have to nitpick to separate it out. I love it for the brains over brawn nature of the schooling.

What's interesting to me is the media hype of it all. Alot of people today think the betting odds were much, much wider as a result of the resulting tall tales. People who've never seen the fight that I've shown it to are also surprised to see how it actually shook out, as they were expecting George to be murdering him before gassing out. I think Ali's sharp countering and piercing right hands were more impressive than the myth, but the legend has eclipsed the actual event in some ways.

Another fun fact that doesn't mean anything but is still humorous is that many Africans were surprised to learn George Foreman wasn't white.

Buster didn't win coming from behind either. He whooped Tyson's ass from start to finish.
