I think it was in 1963 in a boxing illustrated interview That Cleve had Said he would Smash Big Mouth Clay, and a few more unflattering things

When this fight was signed Cleve's manager in the Rings Preview Issue said that Cleve would Chase Clay right out of the Ring..

I think Ali remembered these elements of disrespect and decided to extract a painful payback !

Next fight up Terrell got some Ugly treatment From Ali for calling him Clay.

Rare Exhibition fight 1970 before the Quarry fight. Look at the difference between this outta-shape coming back version and the Williams peak version. Ali looks a bit better in the 2nd round.

I wonder how many have taking a beating in the gym trying to emulate Ali after watching this fight. The most beautiful perfomance by any HW ever IMO.

ali was at his best at the williams fight

IMO no other heavyweight would have beaten ali that night

watch the way he shuffled in front of williams and threw before he could do anything

Cleveland William's literally had 357 bullet slugs in his body at this point. The man was done.

I love how Liston's resume is called weak outside of the Patterson wins when he beat a prime version of the man twice.

That version of Muhammad Ali was without doubt the best ever HWT & has a good case for being the best p4p too.
Its between him & SRR, thats for sure.

I have that fight at home but its in black & white, thats the clearest colour version Ive ever seen.

Ali glided around that ring vs both Williams & London.
If Ali had finished the Williams performance with the same combination he Kod London with, I think that would be hands down the most beautiful display caught on camera ever, as it is, it still might be.

    Ali was/is the greatest.

I don't think there's anyone on this board who doesn't know that Williams had been shot and obviously was past his best.

But he was ranked when he met Ali, and Ali's perfomance is stunning in any case.

i agree with you ali is the best ever heavyweight

i used to think he was the best p4p but i just think he is in the top 10 now as his record and his acheivements dont live up to his abilities if you get me

i have him about 3,4,5th depends what mood im in

Williams went 20-1-1 after Liston and before Ali, with his only loss being an SD against TErrell who he also beat

I think his past prime is exagerated, obviously he had been physically 'shot' this doesn't mean hes a disabled shot to pieces fighter
