ali's last 'fight' ? Muhammad Ali fought Dave Semenko in an exhibition match on June 12, 1983. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Semenko This content is protected Bob Jones referring a demonstration bout in Canada between "The Greatest" Muhammad Ali and Dave Semenko... [YT]FxJ0S8aLGhk[/YT]
Ali knew how to perform entertaining exhibitions, having a style and temperament well suited for it. If he'd retired after Inoki screwed up his legs [which got him a highly publicized hospital stay to which the classy Norton brought him flowers and well wishes], he might have been been able to rack up years of lucrative exhibitions as Dempsey had. I wonder what he weighed here to need a warm-up suit. When he undertook training to come back against either Holmes or Weaver, it seemed like all the body fat he'd accumulated when right to his gut, making his body look like his water was about to break. To pull off a decent exhibition career in that era, he had to practice at least some measure of weight control.
Thanksfor posting that. I had heard about it but never seen it. The thing with hockey players is they have to have the good legs.
Ali was so much fun. He just has to put a smile on your face. If he didn't have Parkinsons, he probably could have made millions for years just going around giving exhibitions.
I really think Ali should have continued after the Berbick fight which I scored for him. He could have been a major force until Tyson's emergence.
I take it you're jesting, yeah ? I'm as big an Ali fan as they come, but there's no way that he won that Berbick fight ! He certainly made a fight out of it but Berbick, without a doubt, won.
I was thinking the same thing about his needing to wear a warm-up suit. You can tell Ali is pretty heavy; probably 245+. Ali never seemed to be one of the guys who could carry a lot of weight well. And another thing: Dave Semenko is listed as 6'3", but he looks 6'5" or more next to Ali.
Here is an article about the exhibition: http://www.edmontonsun.com/2011/06/07/month-made-for-fistic-memories
