One of the few Ali fights that I had n't seen since it happened. It was as bad as I remembered. As big an Ali fan as I am,I have to admit that he looked terrible in this contest. His fourth worst career performance. Only beaten by the first Spinks,Holmes and Berbick fights. As for the decision,I would score it a draw. If Young had shown a little more enterprise,he could have swung the decision his way. He would have lost the rematch to a fired up Ali,but he could have taken the crown that night,if he'd realised that sticking your head outside the ropes is not the way to impress judges.

I scored it recently, Can't really give it to Ali. He was outworked and outboxed throughout, Young only stuck his head out the ropes a few times, as well despite most people acting like he spent half the time with his head outside the ring.

I had Young winning it by 2 points and gave Ali the benefit of the doubt in a round or two, no way does an unbiased judge have Ali winning this.

    Awful fight.
One of the worst heavyweight title fights I've seen.( but probably better than Baer v Braddock.).
Ali was in disgusting condition and his performance was terrible. Jimmy Young is one of my least favourite fighters ever, he sucked.

Young is boring, but he definitely didn't suck. He beat Foreman, Lyle 2x, should of been awarded the W against Shavers, and should of got this W. As well as losing a controversial fight with Norton, it seems judges just punished him for his style and fighting in an era with heroes like Ali

Stylistically he sucked, as an entertainer he was lacking, IMO. But that's only from what I've seen of him. And I'll give him credit for being a tough fighter and a clever one. I dont think he was as good as some people here do, probably because I'm not as impressed by the 1970s heavyweight "golden era" reputation of many of the contenders of that time. Foreman was pretty awful against Young too.

Very close fight and hard to score IMO. I thought Young might've pulled it out by winning the last couple of rounds, though I also thought Young should've been DQ'd for continually sticking his head out of the ring.

A 34 year old Ali scaling 230lbs was terrible in this fight ,he hadnt trained ,and it showed.Even so Young could not find it in himself to really "go for it",and thats why he never became a Champion, imo.

I got my tape of "Ali-Young" from '76 rolling for review. It is a boring fight due to the fact that neither Ali or Young's styles meshed well.. Both are / were slippery and slick boxers... However, at least Ali was attacking... Jimmy Young looked to slip and counter WAY too much in his title shot fight.... After 5 rds of so-so action, I had Ali ahead based on his aggression; Young wasn't doing jack....

Also, while Ali was at 230 pounds to Young's 209 pounds, Ali really didn't look like a slob at all... At age 34, Ali carried the weight well.... Ali appeared a little off key cuz he was forced to attack.... And Ali was the stronger man too.... No doubt there.... Jimmy Young was in great shape, but the guy couldn't crack an egg over a sink....

This was a stink fight..... But I gave Ali the nod..... Jimmy Young didn't fight as if he was there to really win the title by beating Ali up.... I swear, Jimmy Young boxed Ali as if he were sparring in the gym getting in a good workout..... Jimmy Young had no fire........ Again, Ali didn't look great at all, but he was forcing the issue and getting rough on Young..... Ali won....

Its one Ali fight Ive never seen, not even highlights.... everything Ive ever heard has been negative, I`ll likely never watch it, title defences in the 70s = 15 rds, **** that, from what Ive heard about this fight, that would be hardcore.

Young didn't do jack**** with Ali in '76.......... He fought like a *****....... Young basically acted like a chief sparring partner for a heavy Ali........ Ali was still his master.......

I scored a slim victory for Young.

Master boxers neutralized Ali....Norton, Young, Doug Jones.
