Ali'd probably have moved a little more, still have lured George near to the ropes. Muhammad's punches were faster than Foreman's were, which is why I do n't think that the marginally looser than average ropes were that signifigant. Even after all this time, excuses are made for Foreman losing. He lost because Ali beat him !!!!!

Because it takes a shitload of energy to dance in the sort of weather they were experiencing? Especially against someone who has shown some talent at cutting off the ring?

No, no, what am I saying. That's far too obvious and sensible an answer. Ali intentionally had Dundee loosen the ropes, (and then told Dundee to scream at him to get off the ropes all night) because it's far easier and more efficient to take punches from one the biggest heavyweight punchers in history than to outmove him. (That extra six inxhes of leaning back takes all the strength out of George's arms, after all).
