Please tell me this isn't the 'long count' nonsense. Dempsey didn't follow the rule to go to the neutral corner and Tunney would of been up if the count was shorter
It doesn't matter: Should the opponent fail to stay in the corner as directed by the referee, the referee shall stop the count and redirect the boxer to go back to the corner and resume the count at the point that it was interrupted.
The more I think about it, I've changed from Ali by decision to Ali by stoppage. I think Dempsey's speed, aggression and versatility could give Ali he'll early on, but his lack of coolness takes away much chance of winning. Instead of a sustained onslaught like Marciano or Frazier, I think there's every indication he'd over extend, and punch himself out like Foreman. Overall Ali was a class above IMO, even P4P. Dempsey has a good style to take him on though.
Good call. I think Tunney would have stopped Dempsey in both their fights if they had been scheduled for 15 rounds. In both fights, Dempsey was out on his feet and floundering around at the end of the 10th round. Tunney was skilled, but Ali was bigger, stronger, faster, and hit much harder than Gene.
Some on here ( 2 currently ) have difficulties differentiating between what they THINK would happen and what they HOPE would happen.
Sorry Jake. You're a great poster and deserve better than being teased. I think people are in such disagreement with the following ... This content is protected ... that they're giving you an out and offering you a chance to say you're joking. Willard and Firpo being the most obvious to me. Anyway, doesn't matter. Take care and stay safe, bud, and that is not being ironic.
