    It could have happened,

Jimmy was 'no fool' in the ring, and had very quick-hands, and was
a dangerous fighter very early in the bout, before he settled down
    and boxed.

His 'slashing' punching style could cut your eye open, like a sharp
    knife slicing a tomato.

    Set for August 1968

The 26 1/2 year-old Muhammad Ali, in his prime at 6' 3" and 212 lbs., and
complete with a 'fantastic' Heavyweight run of '15' successful defenses
from May 1965 thru April 1968, is looking for his 'Sweet Sixteenth'

    The 28 year-old Jimmy Ellis at - 6' 1 1/2" and 195 lbs. was fresh off his 15-Round
Decision of 'Irish' Jerry Quarry in May 1968.

Jimmy brought his 'Middleweight-Speed' with him when he moved up the Heavyweight
Division, along with a good left jab, and crisp right hand. Durable, quick-handed and
most of all 'ring smart', enough tools to give anyone in the late-60's a rough time in the ring.

Is that a "Puerto Rican" version of Clay?

It would pan out similarly to their 1971 bout. Maybe Muhammad ends it quicker.
