I don't see Ali's speed of hand being as much a problem as his speed of foot and ability to change direction instantly at will.
For a puncher who needs to set his feet, this is a nightmare. Louis, like any effective puncher, needed to set himself, even if just for a second or two.
Louis didn't have slow feet, but his footwork was very deliberate.
I think he'd have a heck of a time trying to find Ali long enough to really put hurt on him.
Maybe Louis was a little too studious and deliberate at times. I think it's his undoing against Ali, who would enjoy the initiative all night long.
The battle of the jabs would be interesting, but I just don't think Ali will be still long enough for Joe's awesome combinations to come into play.
If he does get caught by something big, he's tough enough to survive it.
I love Joe Louis to bits, but this for me is Ali's fight to lose.

UD for Ali is how I see it, but I also can see Ali getting rocked more than a couple of times along the way.

So, not a very unpopular opinion, no lol.

The only "heavyweights" more overrated than Louis and Ali are Rocky Marciano, "Prime Mike Tyson" and Tyson Fury. In any case Joe Louis couldn't handle 160 pound Billy Conn's boxing skills. Joe Louis was also hurt badly by light punching 160 pound Billy Conn. Ali would either toy with Louis and stop him late or stop him when he choose to stop him.

what a bunch of foolishness have you ever seen how ali and conn fight and how that is not an indication of how ali would do anything against louis ,Henry cooper dropped ali with lead hook, Joe louis hits miles harder.

So did Buster Douglas to Mike Tyson, Schmeling dropped Louis in their first fight, kayoed Joe, but was destroyed in the second one. Ali was green and underestimated Henry Cooper in 1963, but in 1966, they fought again, Ali took Henry's hammer, nothing happened, except 14 stiches to Henry's eyebrow. TKO 6. Bottom line, a great fighter shows heart and courage by getting back up to resume the fight. Careful on using words like foolishness, you are treading on other poster's opinions, inflammatory words might get you reported or placed on ignore, then you will be talking to yourself, that can be a bad habit.

Joe was a great fighter and Ali has to be switched on at all times, but I think Ali had the chin to take it and the better chin of the two as well. Prime Ali's speed, movement, jab and quick sharp combo's win a decision imo.

What adjustments the Ali do from the first cooper fight to the second if you watch ali foster , Ali was eating lead hooks to. if you watched the frazier fights Ali was eating hard hooks too, He gets groggy like that against Joe or Langford he gets finished ,they had two handed concussive power.

Muhammad Ali moved and did not get caught in 1966 against Henry Cooper like he did in 1963, he did not clown with Cooper. But only there are those who do not want to give Ali credit for getting up from that knockdown that Cooper scored on him, Ali had the heart of a true champion. He was not a so called terror who folded when the chips were down like Mike Tyson did in Tokyo, it gets tiring to hear excuses about that loss, did you or I tell him to stay out late with those Japanese street walkers? He did not make mature choices, the better man won, plain and simple. Him not keeping Kevin Rooney or listening to his wife Robyn Givens over the you know what, is rather childish, poor fellow needed to grow up. As for the first Muhammad Ali vs Joe Frazier fight in 1971, no excuses, just fact, Ali had just 18 rounds of boxing since his 43 month banishment from 1967-1970. He should not have taken the fight so soon, he needed a few more tune ups, but that was Ali's choice, great well earned victory for Joe Frazier, who had ring activity on his side. Interesting fact I have mentioned in the past, but Yank Durham did not want Frazier in the ring with champion Ali in 1967 before the banishment, shrewd move but it makes fans wonder. Tyson lost his title in the ring in his first undisputed title reign in 1990, Ali did not lose his in his first undisputed title reign in 1967, it was stripped from him, when he fought Frazier the first time, he was trying to regain the title he never lost.

I would have loved to watch this match up, more than once! IMHO, either could win on a given day. If they fought 7 times, I wouldn't be surprised if it went 4-3, or even 3-3-1. The best heavyweight boxer puncher ever vs. the best heavyweight pure boxer ever. What a series that would have been! I'd pay a lot to see it! I know that much. No betting. I just want to watch.
