The Muhammad Ali of '67 and The Lennox Lewis of 2000

    A full 15 rounder , who takes it ?

There has been alot said saying Lennox would be to much for Ali , i dissagre completely and i think Ali would out box Lennox, out move him, and dance his way to a clear UD ..

    Opinions please

Lewis's chances are better over 12, naturally. Ali is a proven 15 round fighter. Lewis has a lot of weight to carry around in pursuit of Ali. I pick Muhammad by a pretty lop sided decision over 15.

I think Lennox could give Ali some problems. I do not see him pursuing Ali. I think he would stand in the center of the ring, listen to the crowd booooo, and make Ali come to him. I believe Lewis could find some success playing the roll of Forrest against Mosley, or Tarver to Jones.

I feel that a '67 Ali could still get the better of Lewis.

I don't know if I feel the same about '70's Ali.

Ali wears down lumbering lennox and pulls a tko in the late rounds.

    Joe Calzaghe would probably win.

Ali never fought anyone like Lewis and visa versa...close fight and battle of the mind and will......Ali could adapt and has the edge in speed...Lewis the power and two fisted power...Lewis was not a wide swinger like Foreman...and not a dope to rope

Lewis was good but if he would face Ali from 67 he would have been totally outboxed. That speed and those combinations would be to much for him and then, during that time, Ali was almost impossible to lay a hand on. We should never compare Ali from the 60´s and Ali from the 70´s - almost two different fighters.
as always, this is just my opinion.

would be a hell of a fight. Did Ali face anyone with the strength and intelligence of Lewis? doubtful

Lewis would be arguably the top opponent Ali ever faced in three key departments: size, power and championship ring IQ.

Yet Ali still wins. Lewis would know what to do but he wouldn't be able to pull it off consistently against Ali's preternatural speed, mobility and elusiveness.

I see Ali mostly moving in and out, scoring points, and stoically taking the rough treatment in quite a few clinches. Cumbersome Lewis will rarely hit Ali cleanly to the head and I believe he would eventually fall into desperation and thus possibly a breakdown and thus possibly lose on a late TKO or most likely a unanimous decision.

How could Lewis win? Come in leaner, with gobs of stamina, and establish the jab off which to launch varied combinations; one good blow could set up a kill. Jab when Ali jabs. Attempt to disrupt Ali's rhythm. Try and try again. Apply patient pressure. Use the uppercut inside; lean on your foe as much as possible. Above all, keep your head. Lewis would be much tougher than Terrell.

But I think Ali can keep his poise for 15 rounds and do enough to win.

Everyone here has picked Ali. I have nothing new to say.

Point is, if Ali had the same advances in food, training and substance at his disposal which Lewis had, he would have weighed a fair deal heavier with the same fighting qualities but with much more strength and power. This Ali, fighting with full application, would have stopped Lewis somewhere in the middle to late rounds.

Man, that would be one fighter to behold. Do you think he would have had as good stamina as the real Ali, though?

As for the thread question, I say as most. Ali takes a clear, but not loopsided, UD in a pretty dull, tactical affair.

Ali was never really a big puncher, eating a few magic modern sandwiches isn't going to turn him into one. As for modern training, he said he thought lifting weights was the dumbest thing a boxer can do. He's always liked speed and stamina over power and bulk.

Yes, i think it comes down to who can impose their will on the other.... i think it will be Ali, with his speed and footwork. But he'd have to take a few licks to get there; i'd expect a competitive decision win for him. Any version of the 70's loses and if he tries the rope a dope he's in for a long night as well.

I think Lennox is among those with the best chance against Ali in these hypothetical H2Hs. Over 15, however I don't like his chances. 12 Rounds he has a UD shot, 15 I think is a stretch for the big guy. Ali close(ish) but clear UD, after weathering an early storm.
