Prime Baer arrives by time machine to 1967. He gets a title shot at Ali and thinks he can win. He shows up at his best and in shape.

Baer had the stamina and chin to go the distance but I can’t see him scoring any significant points unless he scores a lucky knockdown.

The pre-fight antics would be much more fun than the actual fight

If Ali is feeling mean then Max gets hammered.

Despite clearly having ATG power, Baer's punching mechanics and general ability on film, for the most part, appear to be significantly less than elite.

I have seldom been impressed watching him ply his trade and don't believe that he's going to do anything significant that Ali cannot avoid with the telegraphed punches and wild swings from yesterday's dinner.

Ali could easily tattoo his face and open him up - he shook Liston when he opened up in combination and the jab swelled multiple eyes and drew blood. If anything, perhaps, Baer's humour and demeanour keeps Ali from developing the animosity that he brought into the ring versus Terrell and Baer sees the final bell.

I don't see Baer's chances anywhere unless he launches some kind of lucky punch...

Ali can stop him if he wants to, Ali would win every single round, except maybe the first if he has a look at him and Baer comes out fast.
Ali begins to hit him at will with jabs, lead left hooks and counters, feinting to the body and then throwing the left hook followed by combinations, making Baer walk onto punches.
It looks something like the Cleveland Williams fight but lasts longer.
Ali late stoppage or on points with Max Baer battered and gets stopped on his feet.

Big puncher, nothing cute or impressive enough in his combination punching mechanics to think Ali would be troubled.

There's backfists and running after opponents with abandon care to defensive responsibility chasing the knock out. His clock would get cleaned ala AJ by Dubois against a fair few fighters at the weight.

I rate his power but just don't think he's close to an elite boxer.

I am going with Muhammad Ali by decision, but Ali needs to stay alert. Max Baer's power was no joke and, although he used some crude and "unusual" looking tactics, Max was a very dangerous fighter at his best.
