Muhammad Ali vs Max Baer

Baer was very tough and had real power but wasn't in Ali's league. As some have said earlier his best hope is that Ali likes him and therefore does not give him the death by a thousand cuts treatment.

 

Baer would box Ali's ears off until a desperate roundhouse swing from Ali shatters Baer's glass chin.

 

I’m glad at least one person has the guts to call this fight as it might’ve been. The skills of Baer were so nuanced, only the most expertly trained eyes are capable of picking up on them.

 

Bad day for Max, he would get pummeled then most likely stopped after taking a beating.

 

Baer after hitting the deck: “Last one up is a sissy”

Ali in reply: “But Max, you’re the only one who’s down??”

Max: “Well, someone get me a doctor then. Not a house doctor, a people doctor!”

Galento at ringside: “If they just let me fight the way I wanna fight, I’ll moider both those bums in the one night!”

 

My thoughts exactly.

 

Beer looks pretty bad, I actually think Muhammad would oblige him with some clown sort of behaviour, If Baer wanted to he’d probably get to collect a check with minimum damage, Ali had to be dragged into a fight - on the inside Baer would win the exchanges unchallenged while they lasted, Ali is strong enough to wrap Baer up though, he’d just follow him around getting pot shotted me thinks… he’d win some rounds, he was the real deal but he wouldn’t win, I’m gonna rewatch some Baer and come back to this, only because I’m a contrarian and he’d have to do better then Bonavena right?

 

I agree Magoo, Ali had to be forced into a fight Mr Baer had a helluva chin that got checked by only? Louis and had to really be beaten to bits to stop him… I think Ali would settle for a decision here, he was the type of guy to let the KO come he didn’t look for it, at least it was very rare he did much like Pros such as Moore, Louis, Walcott, Charles and the other old school HWs,.. Baer was made of old boots and had bullish stamina and fought 20 rounders (only a few, maybe one? I don’t remember) he never seemed tired, I think if he tried he could do better then Bonavena but Bonavena that night was unusually confident, usually he lost his nerve a bit and quit? a few times from memory.

 

I actually am starting to think you make these threads looking for someone to make a case for the obvious loser, but I only think you do it to learn something delicate your try troll-ish nature (we share that) lol.

 

We need more of that, I think most people get so set on things because they can’t argue other positions even in a devils advocate sort of way… mostly because they either don’t know enough or because they’re worried to lose the ever so valuable “forum points” as if there are correct opinions in a fantasy discussion lol.

 

That is a really good point.

What do we learn from assumptions! Think of what you can learn from trying, it doesn’t take much to say “Ali by UD” lol you may surprise yourself, you may come back to the same conclusions for different reasons.

 

If Louis could ko Max, then so could a bigger, faster and stronger Ali. Only difference is that Ali would cut him up first.

If Baer couldn't bully his opponent or hit behind the head then he had little chance against a good boxer.

Did anyone ever watch his loss to Braddock? Does anyone disagree that Ali was an order of magnitude better than Braddock?
