It's an interesting story, told by someone who was there, Mr. Lawrence Holmes, a respected businessman from Easton, Pa.. Could be true. But in the end, Roy never earned a title shot, so Ali never had to fight him. It's impossible to say who'd have won if they had fought, but most of us would probably bet on the guy who knocked Richard Dunn out, not the one who lost to Dunn.

Sometimes his Ali posts were just insulting to everyone's intelligence though, such as his constant reminders of the Wepner "knockdown", which about everyone knows was the result of Wepner stepping on Ali's foot, as famously pictured.

It's not that Ali was a saint, but going by Il Duce's posts, you'd think he was a horrible human being to the point of being outright criminal in his actions and that he possessed no particularly remarkable abilities as a boxer. This thread is a good example of that. Williams was a sparring partner who did it to get paid and could punch a bit, but here you'd think he was an epic rival of Ali's who intimidated the "bully" and made him back down by whipping him in two "unsanctioned" 10 round bouts.

Do you know why he left? It was a bit ominous that he just disappeared after frequently posting, but perhaps he just got bored with it all?

Ali didn't go down because Chuck hit him hard on an exact rib previously broken, that was a silly comment. Chuck admits it wasn't much of a punch and film shows it was his foot not the light glove to the body that caused Ali to stumble. Geeese

His last two posts were within an hour of each other. A reply on the Leonard-Hagler fight and a Jerry Quarry reply. No one was arguing with him, everyone was just throwing out points and that was it for him. He just disappeared - figuratively speaking. I hope the dude is OK, I liked his posts and I'm an Ali fan.

No, i dont know. But i was corresponding with Big Jake who got pretty friendly with him around the time he left and he was of the impression that a few on here werent happy with him for whatever reason, and the guy decided to call it a day. I was given the impression he was an old sportswriter from late 50s/early 70s, hence a lot of his info on the times. Funnily enough, i havent seen BigJake post from around that time also. I hope that is what happened rather than something happening to the guy, maybe he'll come back under another name

sparring mean jack **** - it's for working on your weaknesses. i heard ali did a lot of covering up and defence work in his sparring so he let fighters hit him for this purpose. for real is when it counts.

I know Williams went to prison for killing someone.
He did time in prison for killing someone. Sorry but I don’t know the details.

Without stepping on Ali's foot Ali would never have been dropped.
Although I doubt it was intentional, Ali was unhurt & went on to (legally) brutalize Wepner.

    Funny thing re Roy Williams.

He had an excellent jab and used it to great effect in the Holmes fight.

However, vs the even shorter Shavers, it appeared that Roy either abandoned or forgot his jab. Strange.

With Williams’ height and reach advantages, the jab should’ve been on tap throughout the fight.

I wonder what he’s up to now? Maybe I’m confusing him with someone else - but didn’t he sing in a band?
