I`d more say Shavers, but Ali took horrible shots in that bout and would have lost to most of these guys in that condition, he beat Shavers but certainly didn`t excell, the same could be said about his fight with Lyle.
Willard wouldn`t have been able to take any of the shots Ali knocked fighters out with because he used to get caught flush and often, Ali would combo him to death or would make the ref step in after dishing out a painful boxing lesson he was so much faster than Willard as was Dempsey.
Yeah you’re right there, antman. So you’re saying that if you’re not including the likes of Foreman, Liston and maybe Frazier as limited power punchers then there really ain’t many real examples of Ali excelling or dominating against limited power punchers and its another Ali myth? What about old Cleveland Williams?
He is less skilled, that doesn't necessarily mean he'd loose to all of them, he was far less skilled than Luis Ortiz, that doesn't mean he lost to Ortiz though
There are fighters I could see having a reasonably chance beating a prime Ali. This lot isn't it. Sullivan probably has the best hope fromt this group.
That's a pretty weak list of safe fighters for Clay. I suppose a highly motivated Ray Mercer that caught him resting up too much on the ropes would have the best shot at it. Of course Wilder has the power to bomb him right back to que3r street, but I just don't see it happening
Willard was only really stopped by Jack Dempsey, and Luis Firpo, both of who hit a lot harder than Ali. Also, for the reff to step in back then, you practically had to have one eye hanging out on the optic nerve!
15 th round. Time: 0.28 This content is protected Alis chin was one the best in boxing history. He would have survived all those punchers imo.
Not one of them has a real chance- Unless it is a horribly eroded version of Ali even then his fighting IQ may be too much for all of them. Baer is the one with the best "chance" Durability, endurance and power is really the only hope here and Max had them all in spades every minute ticking by is a very very very slim chance for Maxie to find his mark with a life altering punch- I give Max a 10% chance.
Some of those men were not limited. Sullivan appears to have been a good technician, for his style. Fitzsimmons was obviously a superb technician, but he was very small. Carnera was a respectable technician, but his power was nothing special. Mercer very nearly outboxes Lewis! None of these men were remotely limited!
