Vince I defended you in my initial post but, perhaps, you are an Ali hater. As a Christian (paraphrasing a comedian) I despise many in Christ's 'fan club' as well. :D
None of the champs you mentioned had greater longevity than Ali, if you consider my previous point that we never saw him wiping everyone out between 1967-1970, would have ruled those six years or longer. **** on the modern A-B-C champs you trowled out.
I think he had everyone on his side after Foreman and, in retrospect, had semi-lost it after that point.
But any attempt to bring him down to less than TOP-TIER ATG HW status is an insult.

    Greetings Red!
Young: Ali won the fight IMO but the aging great got a taste of his own 'slickness'.
Frazier: They were both on their last legs; a great fight but both were shells of their former selves at that point.
Norton: As I mentioned I thought Ali lost that fight; look at Ali after the final bell sounded with his head slumped down as he headed for his corner. That alone speaks a lot.
Shavers: see what I said in a previous post.
No disrespect to you or Muhammad.

Arum, by all accounts, was a piece of human excrement.
And Rossman got hammered by LH's after that. Don't forget him and his dad beating a guy senseless and stuffing him into the trunk of their car. Another worthless piece of HS!

None taken. Really I just take issue with the bum of the month club idea, both for Ali and Louis. They fought so many rated guys it seems wrong to dismiss their defenses like that.

As for the nature of Ali's wins I won't disagree. He's one of those guys that never lost a close call like Galindez or Paulie Ayala. But that's a horse of a different hoove.

All you need to know about Arum's trustworthiness can be derived from the following quote he allegedly made:

"I was lying to you then. But, now I am telling the truth."

When you say "washed up" what you really should be saying is Ali was showing the early symptoms of Parkinsons syndrome.
His doctor Ferdie Pacheco realized he was sick & tried to get Ali to retire. When Ali wouldn't listen Pacheco left him
Just imagine what Ali would have achieved had he not been banned from boxing for purely political reasons. He lost 3 1/2 years of his prime
As for the Shavers fight try asking him his opinion of Ali. I did & Earnie said " That man was incredible he just kept coming no matter how hard I hit him . The only other man who could do that was Randall Tex Cobb"
Ali was the GREATEST HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF ALL TIME !!

I don't recall Victor losing a close call; he may have gotten a 'gift' in one or two.
Sidebar: Prime Victor or Conte would have played hell in the early eighties, it boggles my mind that they are dismissed as not being truly great LH's. The WBA-WBC **** started screwing boxing up at that time which is why we never saw a Conte-Galindez title s**** in the summer of 1975. Wow! I would have been 'self-medicated' and pumped in my closed circuit seat for that one!
