Taking this phase by itself, how high in the list of all time heavies would you rate Muhammad ? I feel that he'd still be in the top three.

    #2 behind Louis, tbh.

Add the Liston win, and the 9 title defenses, and I think he has the best heavyweight resume ever by quite a stretch.

Still top 3...at least. Winning 2 out of 3 with Joe Frazier, overcoming the monster George Foreman, in addition to solid wins over Jerry Quarry, Oscar Bonavena, Ron Lyle, and Ken Norton, Patterson, Chuvalo, etc.

I don't rate Ali that highly.

If his career 1970 - '75 was taken is isolation, we'd probably all rank him even higher.
Beating Quarry and Bonavena in your first two fights, then going 15 with Frazier ? That's one heluva way to start your pro career !

well not really top 3, imo. at this stage he lost a lot. I can see numerous heavies beating this version of ali, at least.

By the numbers, going 20-2 (11 Ko's) and avenging both losses suffered is pretty impressive, especially against a very high caliber of opposition. If this was the entirety of Ali's career, he'd still wind up near the top of any heavyweight ranking (similar to the manner in which Charles gets rated at highly for his LH tenure).

At the top just ahead of Louis (if we're talking on a H2H basis)

That version of Ali was a beast, and I think he would do a lot better against certain fighters than the 60's Ali (Tyson for instance).

    Maybe I'm just crazy though.
