Muhammad Ali's 'controversial' decisions.

Never said noone thought Shavers won. You can always find an idiot here and there....or someone trying to start controversy. The overwhelming majority felt Ali won including all the major newspapers....Ring...BI...AP.....UPI. ive read reports that alluded that the fight was close but never in memory read actual scoring from a notable that was there that night that scored it for Shavers.

 

Yes, the sporting editors of several American newspapers were idiots if we listen to you.

 

The vast majority gave the bout to Ali in the range of 9-6 in rounds as I did. These would include...AP, UPI, NY times, NY Daily news, RING, BI....many many others. The leading experts felt Ali won. If you think it's logical to side with those few that felt Shavers won that's your problem.

 

I'm not siding with anybody. I have my own eyes and a good quality MPEG of the fight.

 

Houdini and Senya, how badly hurt do you two beleave Ali was in the second round after taking that first big right hand and stumbling backwards?

 

Ali was badly stunned. He was seriously hurt...out on his feet at the end of round 14.

 

EXACTLY - I re watched the fight a couple of days ago and I scored it round by round and I actually only gave Ali 4 rounds out of the 15 fought!??
Here's the breakdown:

Shavers rounds won: 2 (and big), 4 (and big), 6 (and big), 7, 8, 9, 12, 13 (and this one was verging on a 10-8 Ali took a beating in this one), 14 (and this one Ali took an even worse beating than in the 13th!), and the 15th (I could be swayed on giving this even but only based on a 20 second flurry at the end but in reality no Shavers took the other 2mins and 40secs of the round) - so that's 10 rounds to Shavers and 5 of those he won big!!

Ali rounds won: 1, 5 (which Ali won big Ali's biggest and best round of the fight), 10 & 11

Round 3 I scored even but I was being kind to Ali on that one as again I really thought Shavers won the majority of the round so if forced to score it to somebody the only way I could've gone with that one was shavers??

So I would definately class that one as a robbery - a disgraceful decision really because the rounds that Shavers won he really won wide aswell??

 

The problem with scoring most of these fights is that are incredibly dull fights.

 

You mean Ali fights in general? I fall asleep whenever I try to watch more than a few rounds of him. The Shavers fight I scored about 5 years ago, having slept the whole night and morning prior to that, so that not to doze off again.

 

Yeah, most Ali fights from 1970 onwards particularly.

 

Norton III wasn't iffy at all. It was a robbery. 9-6 for Norton is the best score.

I watched Ali vs Jones twice, and scored it 6-4 for Ali

Ali vs Young could be ruled a draw. Young's sticking his head outside the ropes took away from the point that he out jabbed Ali, and even had him a little rattled in round 9.

Shavers is the fight I want to score.

Silly and totally revisionistic. Ali won his bout with Shavers as per most credible sources who scored the fight.

The third bout with Norton was a close nip and tuck battle. Several weeks after the fight in 76 CBS televised the bout and had a panel of a dozen writers, trainers, and past champions score the bout live. At the end of 15 rounds all the scores were tabulated. The result? A draw. So a close bout. I attended this bout at Yankee stadium and can tell you many rounds I could not determine who won. This same sentiment was said by the ref Arthur Mercante after the bout. I was no Ali fan in 76 and scored it 8-7 for Norton. I remember watching the last round and steaming to Norton to attack since I felt the bout was so close. He did but only the last 30 seconds of the round.

 

I was at the Shavers fight and I thought Ali won that pretty clearly ( a few rocked moments but Ali played it off

I thought Young beat him, the Norton fights were close but no robbery there

Doug Jones gave him a rough battle but a young kid on the rise in a close fight no robbery

Ali always had the judges and officials ,Ref kind of intimidated by his fame and star quality but I dont see any out & out robbery's
