Walcott could have issued a point deduction.

Show us the list of prior hwt champions that were disqualified without warning for one violation? Never happened and of course Ali should not have been the first.

:goodThank you VV! I can assure everyone, BTW, that I'm not an Ali hater,....just that I'm not wearing those rose colored glasses that most of you view Ali through.

Ali's my all time favourite boxer but I have no problems in admitting that his record should read 54-6-1.

Mind you,he was n't the only boxer to have one or two iffy wins on his record, was he ? Much more get made of his, though.

I don't think a dq is what the poster was implying, rather a NC. Other, unluckier, less beloved boxers than Ali would have suffered a NC for a bout conducted like that 2nd Liston bout. Ali was like the Clinton of his time...not subjected to the same laws and rules as most other ordinary mortals.

A close bout where the champion gets the nod is just that. There is and has never been any implication that either the Young or Norton 3 bout were fixed. Young, if you watch that bout, did not deserve the championship as he refused to engage with Ali going as far as sticking his head out of the ring in an effort to avoid being hit. Those two occasions gave Ali two knockdowns during that bout The last Norton bout was very close with the scoring all in Ali's favor 8-7, 8-7 and 8-6-1. Mercante one of Boxings all time refs who was the ref for this bout gave the bout to Ali by that 8-6-1 score. A panel of boxing experts scored the bout live on cbs tv several weeks after and a compilation of all their scorecards showed the bout as a DRAW. So whether you choose any of the three official scores or the panel of boxing experts compiled scoring ......it's a close fight and a champion, any champion, should not have a fight verdict taken away simply because it was close. It's 2016 ......wise up.

But they weren't knockdowns,, just an example of biased, Ali worshipful scoring. If Ali himself had resorted to sticking HIS head out of the ring to avoid punches, posters like you would be crowing about how creative and brilliant Ali was ...how endlessly resourceful he was. Go gather a bunch of Ali worshippers together and they'll deny Ali any defeat...it means nothing...but bias....rose tinted glasses bias...always in favor of Mr. Charisma...never mind that he should have been subject to the same objective, non-biased scoring that other mortals are subject to. Like I said, Ali was the Clinton of his time....held above any objective scrutiny. Ali was made to look bad by and was outscored by both Norton in their 3rd bout and by Jimmy Young....and deserved to lose both fights.....and he WOULD have, if it weren't for his celebrity and a handful of corrupt officials.

Bull****....that's one of the reasons why boxing suffers so from corruption...a loss by a point is still a loss....and a new champion should be crowned.

You could not be more wrong and you are showing your inexperience. Sticking your head out of the ring like you are trying to leave the ring is a justifiable KD. And Yound did it more than twice which is what led to the KD calls. It would not matter WHO tried this tactic. Pro fighters do not try leaving the ring multiple times during a fight FOR THE HWT CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD.

No officials that scored Norton 3 or the Young fight were corrupt. That's a very ignorant statement not backed by any fact. MERCANTE was perhaps Boxings greatest ref. No one would say he was corrupt and he scored the bout 8-6-1 for Ali. Again Ali hater its 2016, Ali won a few close fight as did most every hwt champion. Get over it! Conspiracy theories are for the mentally challenged!

Alert! Ali WON the decision from Norton in fight three by a point. He did not losevby a point. The official decision is just that. No ref in the modern era was as respected as Mercante and his scoring was 8-6-1 Ali. Close fight but Ali got the nod.

Ali should have lost to Foreman too. Foreman was just getting his second wind on the canvas when they counted him out.

You're entirely too biased and smug in your self appointed role as a "boxing expert" to waste time with. Disagree with an Ali decision win and you're an "Ali hater"...You're trying to hard son...
