Muhammad Ali's resume has done serious damage to boxing (excuse my rambling)

I feel like we all agree Muhammad Ali is indeed "The Greatest" this is not a name. Even if he said it as a joke,no one is really laughing at it anymore as it is the truth.

The big problem I have is that people seem to ALWAYS say that people's resumes suck because if you look up best heavyweights of all time and you look at Ali's resume, you'll find a lot of those names. I don't think it is fair to do this to other fighters and people need to stop doing it. The only other fighter who did this, was Sugar Ray Leonard, and I don't think it is fair for people to do this.

Of course it's fair. Ali beat some of the best Heavyweights ever and should be praised for that. If most Heavyweights' resumes don't compare, then that's on them, because they should not be given unwarranted praise.

Ali beat two consensus top ten heavyweights and a bubble top ten heavyweight in his division. Have any other fighters did that?

Actually, yeah. Harry Greb beat 2 consensus top 10 Light Heavyweights in Gene Tunney and Tommy Loughran, as well as a bubble top 10 LHW in Tommy Gibbons.

Yeah the names are there but truthfully you gotta say Foreman is the only ATG heavyweight in his prime that Ali beat

The fact is you rarely have Atg fighters in their prime fighting other Atg fighters in their prime especially at heavyweight

I don’t think it’s necessarily damaged it, but I do think it’s made discussions about heavyweight greats a bit boring and redundant (so agreed if that’s what was meant in the OP).
As long as Ali is the default GOAT, there’s no real point comparing any other fighters to him.
For me the bigger question is…do the other fighters really care, and what difference do mythic all-time rankings make to them, unless it helps sell more PPVs when they’re active fighters?

Ali is, was & always will be The Greatest !!!!!!!!!!!!! People forget he was banned from boxing for 3 !/2 years for purely political reasons. He still came back & dominated the HW scene although he was no longer the lightening fast Ali. He adjusted his style to compensate. It wasn't until the signs of Parkinsons showed its evil head that he needed to retire. Instead they kept pushing him out there They didn't care all they saw was $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
He will be my personal #1 of all time. without doubt !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Greatest Of All Time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most people don't forget that, but it's still odd to understand how Ali was the World HW champ but because he refused to submit to the American draft all of world boxing went along with stripping/banning him? So yeah it was very political within boxing at that time.

Can't see that happening today with a boxer from X country refusing his country's draft and then being ostracized from the world boxing community.

It wasn't that other countries honored the ban. It was that his passport was taken away. Canada offered to host his fights.

And Tunney beat Greb and Loughran, 2 top 10 all time LHWs, as well as Tommy Gibbons.

Ezzard Charles beat 2 top 10 all time LHWs in Archie Moore and Jimmy Bivins, as well as a top 20 all time LHW in Lloyd Marshall.
