    Bokaj did an interesting thread a couple of weeks back on how the Trevor Berbick fight,in it's own way,was an underrated performance from Ali. Any more that come to mind ? They don't all have to be Muhammad at his technical best. I put forward the Oscar Bonavena bout. By the time of him stepping into the ring on that early December night in 1970,Muhammad had only seen three rounds of action in the three years and eight months since he'd beaten Zora Foley. Rusty as he was,he dsplayed to all that he was one tough and strong guy. He'd demonstrate this on a higher level in his next fight. Bonavena was one awkward hombre,and Ali was the one and only to ever stop him. My other candidate was Chuvalo 1. I've given my reasons on the 'What fight was Ali at his best' thread.

    Lewis was one tough hombre who had broken Muhammad Ali's rib in a sparring session.
    Unfortunately, Al Lewis over-trained for his bout with Muhammad Ali, and came in a little light and weak.

    Muhammad had a cold in the lead up to that fight. Loads of spectators saw the fight for free,as there was a bloody big hole in the fence surrounding Croke Park,that night :lol:

    I agree.

    Ali actually had several good perfomances in the early 70's that seem to be a bit forgotten. The first fight against Bugner being another.

    Good shout. Ali actually should have been given one of his rare (only, in fact) one-punch KO's in this one. He put Lewis down for a 15+ sec count in the 5:th with a right behind the ear. Lewis was still out after 10 seconds and wouldn't have made it.

    Yes. The second Bugner fight was pretty good too. Ali looked far better than he did against Wepner and Lyle.
