Muhammad KO4 Mwale. Some of the most horrible leads to the body I ever did see.

I've said it before thar he could of troubled any of them, even Foster. So tough at his peak.

 

Honestly, I don't even see that as top Muhammad form. Circa late 70's he was at the peak of his powers. Quicker, snappier jab and combinations, overall quicker and fresher. He seemed to age pretty quickly, but was still a great fighter.

Mwale on the other hand is never even talked about, yet he really seemed to be a fine technical boxer.

 

Saad's such an underrated ring-mechanic.Even against a guy like Gregory, he's right there with him technically at last from the incomplete footage anyway.

 

Well, the guy started off as a boxer-counter puncher, and become a slugger as time went on. Yet he still retained his ability to work off of the jab even as he became more and more aggressive, and engaged in as many violent fights as one could possibly begin to imagine.

 

Say what you want about Saad, the guy could muther****ing punch. :shock:

 

It was so much fun to watch the Lthvy's in the 70's.

Can you imagine if he hit Roy Jones with that punch?????

 

You make a good point about the late 70s Saad. As for Mwale, I remember when he was making his name in the late 70s, too. For a while it looked like Mwale was on his way to becoming a monster. He could box, he had excellent power, and seemed to have excellent natural talent

For some reason, though, Mwale couldn't survive on the top level. Possibly he was more of a natural supermiddleweight than lightheavyweight, and he may have lacked the physical strength and durability to hang in there with the 175 lbs. guys. Too bad the 168 lbs. division didn't exist in the late '70s and early '80s: Mwale might have been its champion.

 

IN the UK - Lottie first came to prominance in Ambushing Tony Sibson for a first round KO ! The Sibbo camp knew nothing about this Mwale Guy - Come fight time they found out he was a LtHeavy ...and During the Fight they found out he could Punch !! Sibbo should not of been in with a young Ambitious Sound Boxing and Big Punching Lt Heavy like this Somebody did not do their homework that night !!

Although Lottie was beaten by Saad and Gregory by the in short Order, Lottie would probably of Trouble Many other LtHeavys of the Period. Lottie V Hutchins, Rossman, Kates, Bennett , at tghis Level Lottie may have sprung a surprise or two ?

 

Mwale beat Marvin Johnson, if I remember right. Anyone have any details on that fight?

 

Can always remember watching Conteh's two fights with Saad Muhammad back then.Due to his lifestyle outside of the ring Conteh was well in decline by the time of the first fight but he put up a monumental effort outboxing Matt for long periods,however watching it you always feared for John because Saad Muhammad was such an intimidating presence,you could feel it sitting on your setee in the living room.Sure enough i think it was in the 14th he had John down twice,and won a close decision.In the rematch Conteh was a mere shell of the fighter he had been and was despatched easily.The thing is even in adversity Matt found a way to win. He certainly was special.

 

Saad's best performance was the Conteh rematch IMO. I feel that was the one fight where he put all his tools together perfectly. Saad on that night would've been a match for any light-heavy that ever lived IMO.

Oh yeah, and an awesome fight. The light-heavyweight scene in the late 1970s was very godly.

 

I dunno, Saad was fine but he didn't do anything different than he had done in the first fight, or in other fights from that period.Conteh was just awful, with zero punch resistance or desire left.He folded the minute saad got through with any good shots.
