You are right...I typed it wrong and didn't mean to say Ali said Marciano would stop him. he did say he would probably have beaten him. i apologize. human error.

Also true. Marciano's skills were some of the most basilar and primitive it is possible to see, basically anyone can develop more a more skilled style than Marciano's one.
He was just strong, a strong cruiserweight. He used his face as a guard, the only thing that mattered to him was to come close enough to someone to land his (overrated) "suzieQ".
He just had a chin and stamina, nothing else. He fought anyone they put in front of him, but in the '50, which means mainly fat or skinny light heavyweights/cruiserweights.
Damn, recently i found out he had the same reach of Manny Paquiao, and yet nobody was able to beat him.

Ali was just talking smack, Marciano couldn't even begin to get ready for what Ali brought into the ring as far as boxing skills. In his entire career, he never fought a fighter with movement and skill of Ali. It might be a good idea to watch them old tapes.

He was just saying he didn't know he didn't say marciano would have beat him but that it was theoretically possible, which of course is true, thereotically anyone can beat anyone, it just takes 1 good punch. I mean all boxers are human, and ultimately anyone who is in the top 5 in a competitve era could theoretically beat anyone else. Ie. Evander Holyfield could theretically beat joe louis. Doesn't mean I think he WOULD, but he COULD, Holyfield is a trained pro boxer, top world class athlete, one of the best in the WORLD! with enough power to knock out basically any human being under the right circumstance.

It only takes someone a swift punch and you being flatfooted even if your oliver mccall to be knocked out ice cold. deflecting punches is an art in and of itself. So in light of that the statement makes sense. But Ali also named all the greats, and said he'd beat them round 1 through 14 ie. he'd beat mike tyson in round 1, foreman in round 2, frazier in round 3, marciano inr ound 4, holmes in round 5 and so on. Then said he'd let them all in on the 15th round at once and knock them all out. Ali could at both times be humble and grandiose.

you have to remember ali's two toughest fights were oscar bonavena and frazier, both under six feet, strong, hard punching pressure fighters.i think rocky had better two handed power than joe and better power and defense than oscar.

These old timer threads are bull****, Any top 5 cruiser today would've
taken a **** on marciano. Ali would've toyed with him. The dago is the
most overrated heavy in boxing's history. He beat nobody in there prime
and there are some on here who are convinced he would've KO'd Wladimir:nut

And Larry Holmes said Rocky couldn't hold his jock strap -- so I guess that settles it, Holmes would have beaten Marciano.
