This content is protected It is a well known fact that Muhammed Ali had to use PEDs after being nearly knocked out by Henry Cooper, he was saved by the bell. One can clearly see his corner putting something under Ali's nose to revive him. Watch the video from 20:50 - 22:10 Ali gets knocked down, beats the 10 count and is saved by the bell Ali is clearly hurt bad and his consciousness is messed up as he gets up from his stool when the rest between rounds just began Watch closely at 21:30 one can see the cornerman put something under Ali's nose and Ali becomes irritated (21:34). It is extremely clear that the cornerman is using smelling salts and Ali looks alert all of a sudden When the fight begins again at 22:05, Ali looks much better than before clearly the effects of the smelling salts have worked. What do you guys think of this? I think it delegitimizes Ali's career somewhat since he was basically about to get knocked out by a journeyman. Admittedly it was his early career and he still was developing, but he shouldn't have had big problems with a man like Cooper.
It was an ammonia capsule. It had ammonia in it. (LOL) It smelled awful. You could also use it to clean your bathroom. When people were truly out of their heads, you could crack an ammonia capsule under someone's nose, and they would have no reaction at all. That's when you knew someone was out. (LOL) You can find fights where that happens, too. A trainer is waving an ammonia capsule under a hurt fighter's nose, and he has no reaction. That meant his brain wasn't working properly. They used to be standard piece of a cornerman's kit, about as common as a sponge and a water bottle.
Henry Cooper was ranked among the ten best heavies in the world. He was in no shape or form "a journeyman".
Smelling salts was a banned substance in the Cooper-Ali fight Ali's corner cheated there is no way around it. That fight should have been a DQ loss for Ali
Dundee sticking his finger in a rip in Ali's glove to make it bigger, and then Ali cutting Cooper with the glove causing an end to the fight didn't tip you off? Ali being allowed to fight with a yard of tape hanging off his gloves in the Quarry rematch didn't tip you off? Dundee paying the referee a bribe in the Foreman fight didn't tip you off? Dundee loosening the ropes in the Foreman fight didn't tip you off? Ali's camp feeding him a steady diet of diuretics before the Holmes fight didn't tip you off? DQing Ali for an ammonia capsule would've been like taking Al Capone to court for tax evasion. Accurate but not remotely the worst thing they could've been charged with or even admitted to doing.
smelling salts---we all used them. Clears your head quickly. That is all. Ripped glove on purpose --that I agree with... By the way, why is everyone so concerned with this fight? Robinson lost 15+ times along with the others. We don't make this argument when watching UCF. And we have all lost a fight in our day. Who ever does not get hurt or lose? Just my thoughts
This isn't a case of PEDs. The first case of 'PEDs' that I know of is Erbito Salavarria before his bout with Betulio Gonzalez. He had crushed amphetamines in his water bottle. This was in 1971. Of course, this opens a whole other can of worms to the possibility that some notable classic fighters may have used PEDs for a decent chunk of their careers and we don't even know about it, possibly even before this date..
Dempsey and others used strychnine in small amounts which helped stamina (cyclists and marathoners also used this and some still are caught).
At least Muhammad Ali did not use modern nutrition and training methods(Steroids) to grow ten feet tall, pretending that he did it by eating Organic Vegetables, Ha, Ha, Lol. No excuses by trying to focus these modern practices on Ali, Projectioning it is called in Psychological terms. His name is not Tyson Fury or these 300 lb blimps of today, I was not born yesterday, nor Am I a youngster to believe that Bologna.
