This gets back to a point I made previously. Floyd's "dislikability" helps him to draw people to him who are already interested in Boxing. But because he doesn't have Ali's charm, that's as far as his drawing power goes. The man doesn't really do much for boxing as a sport with his personality.

Ali made the distinction that people wanted to see a cocky black man lose. The reason most people dislike floyd is because he is a cocky black man, whether they will say it out loud in public is a different matter now, we live in a politically correct age, which doesn't mean racism or prejudice has suddenly evaporated from society.

The other day I read a thread where people commented that only ghetto young impressionable black teans like a floyd mayweather.

So I guess anyone who doesn't fit that race or distinction doesn't like him? Sounds to me race plays a part as to why people hate floyd but Ali clearly states it is race as well as being overly cocky. Black isn't enough for someone just to hate you and pay to see you lose, because if that was the case Ali would never had needed to be arrogant and cocky in the first place.

Ali makes this point abundantly clear in the interview.

Nope, but seeing this, one can see Ali was far ahead of his time.

What makes me laugh is that regardless, this thread, as well as any other thread that has something to do with Floyd will generate page after page of peoples feeling, be them good or bad towards Floyd.

I must admit i do feel he plays up to the role and knows that any publicity is good publicity. His pay per view figure speak for themselves so even though he does so much wrong he proves a point that whatever he is doing it works, hence why he continues to do so.

Hes almost playing the WWF Villan role and until he looses he will continue to generate interest in his name.

I have always had an interest in troubled boxers outside of the ring wh perform brilliantly in the ring (another example is Mike Tyson), and i think as much as people hate him people are also interested in his crazy life.

    Point by point...

That said, the absence of people saying it out loud doesn't prove it either.

At best, all that proves is that there are people who don't like him for racial reasons. It doesn't really establish a broad pattern. This forum is a poor source for social research of any kind.

That said, there may be sociological reasons why a certain section of society would like him, but that could have more to do with that section of society readily identifying with Floyd rather than with anything else.

You'd have a to take a logical leap to say this conclusively. My wife, for example, is a Pinay. She dislikes both Floyd and Dubya. If I ask her who she thinks is more arrogant and cocky, she'd choose Dubya. If I ask who who she dislikes more, she'd say Dubya. There are many Pinoys I know who'd be the same way. Does that mean that being white and cocky is worse in the eyes of Pinoys than being black and cocky? Or is it just about being cocky?

I appreciate what Floyd is TRYING to do... but he's plain crap at doing it.

And ss much as I love Ali, he did take it too far with Frazier and I don't blame Frazier for having such strong feelings against it, but at least Ali acknowledged his wrong-doing and tried to form some sort of peace with Frazier.

But Floyds constant bragging while avoiding some big fights for the fans (Jr. Welterweight onward), his ****-poor attitude towards critics and contradicting himself when pushed for answers, his **** sense of humour (you know which scene I mean!) - like I say, i appreciate it but he's **** at it.

  9. I really don't think race has anything to do with it. He's just thoroughly unlikeable. I can't think of a white man to compare him with cause he's so individual and individualy annoying!

the difference between Ali and Floyd

Ali- "I want liston...i will knock that ugly bum out"
    goes out and does it
Ali- "I want Frazier...i will knock that ugly bum out"
at least tried the first time and beats him 2 out of 3 times
Ali- "I want Foreman...i will knock that ugly bum out"
    goes out and does it

Floyd- "I will kick Pacquios ass"
    fights JMM
Floyd- "I will kick Pacquios ass"
    fights Shane Mosley
Floyd- "I will kick Pacquios ass"
    fights Victor Ortiz

Okay, this I 100% agree with. The guy just ain't funny, he smiles a lot and he makes up awkward little songs with no punchline, he probably thinks himself hilarious. He's like the boxing world's equivalent of Dane Cook, just not funny and people who think he is need to get their **** together.

i thought you said Ali there untill i checked!!!was about to give you mad abuse.

i thought Floyd was friendly with Hatton still? i doubt he actually hates white people. Probably hates the fact that America loves white athletes and still doesnt show equal love for both races. If Floyd was white hed probably be biggest thing in boxing.

You're assessment is flawed because with mayweather all you referred to is just pacquaio:lol:

    It should be

FLoyd "I will kick Diego Corales ass"
    Goes out and does it.

Floyd " I will beat oscar ass"
    Goes out and does it.

Floyd " I will beat the breaks off Hatton"
    Goes out and does it.

Floyd "i'll beat the guy that many people thought beat pac twice"
    Goes out and does it.

FLoyd "i'll beat the **** out shane , the guy they say is the WW champ and im afraid of"
    Goes out and does it.
    :deal
