This fight would resemble a child attempting to catch a butterfly in a jar with no net.

Wlads limited , 1-2 attack doesn't beat Ali even 1 time out of 10.

It would be painfully obvious from the start that Ali is just too quick for the lumbering Klit. Ali would move, step in and out hitting him at will while Wlad hits only air. Wlad can't corner Ali and his punches miss again and again. Pattern continues and after 5 rounds Ali has cut Wlad and his eyes are swelling badly. Wlad is exhausting himself in the process of trying to catch Ali and being hit with so much leather. A barrage from Ali in round nine send Wlad down on his back. He struggles up obviously looking like he does not want to continue but the ref let's it go. Another barrage and Wlad is down again. His handlers rush into the ring which ends the fight. Ali by Tko in round 9 in a one sided fight. Wlad is just too slow to contend with Alis speed.

 

Absolute BS. Wlad would give Ali all he can handle, and then some. Even more than Norton did.

 

Norton had the speed and boxing ability to give Ali trouble. He also fought in a semi crouch, bending at the waist leaning away from Alis jab. Wlad does not have the same style but instead stands straight up and would be painfully slow vs prime Ali. One other point is norton never fought prime Ali. In this mythical matchup Wlad is facing the Ali of his prime.....This Ali would be hitting Wlad a dozen punches to one. It would be a massacre. Wlad does not have the durability to hold up under such an onslaught.

 

Wlad slow? Tommy Brooks said his hand speed is on par with Larry Holmes. Ali likes to counter punch, he would not here. The rope a dope would not work, and Wlad would be the stronger of the two in a clinch.


In addition, Ali who said he was out on his feet several times vs Foreman, would have to deal with Wlad's sustained power over 12 rounds.


Ali hitting Wlad a dozen punches to one? ROLMAO, 2nd tier heavies hit Ali and took rounds from him. The same guys would hardly touch Wlad.


Amazing stuff, some of you guys need to watch the films.


Ali in his prime from 66-67 has a slight edge. Wlad has the edge over ANY 1970's version over Ali.

 

Another pointless thread. There's no way Ali could possibly defeat a bigger, stronger opponent, who mastered jab and is extremely powerful, also incredibly fast for his size. Just pointless.

 

If you think Wlad is as fast as Holmes you need to watch prime Holmes. Not close. Wlad would be a lumbering punching bag vs Ali...he fights with his hands low and he has no head movement so he cannot avoid the combinations coming his way. It would be a massacre.

 

Also I don't need to watch films...I lived though the eras of both Ali and Holmes. I know the details of both men as it happened unlike you who can only pull snippets from history books as reference.

Ali's sharp blows would make Klitschko's face and eyes swell up so badly,the referee would have no option but to stop the contest in this scenario.

The stipulation would make a big difference in how both fighters approach the match. It is very different to the sport both excelled in.

That said, while Wladimir Klitschko's outside game is as tough as they come and his long power-punches are crushing, Ali has a lot of advantages over him. Hand and footspeed, chin and toughness, ring generalship and survival skills. That last part is very important in a match of this nature. Once Wlad's leggs are wobbled, as is the norm with tall fighters, they tend to stay wobbly.

This would be the first match where we'd see Ali work the inside, while moving inside and out. Don't think he can't fight inside against a man with Wlad's wingspan just because you've never seen him do it -- he could do so on talent and guile alone.

I'd bet on Ali to tag him with a diamond pure, short right hand from a close angle. Think the shot he nabbed Lyle with. Once Wlad is hurt, Ali can't miss a target that big -- Wlad would lose the quick footwork that protects him so.
