People tend to confuse the first and second fight between these two.

In the first fight, Jeffries fought cautiously and safety first, but he easily controled the underprepared Fitzsimmons. He probably gave Fitz more respect than he needed to in practice.

In the second fight, Fitz turned up in the pink of condition, and beat Jeffries face to a bloody pulp. Jeffries fought more agresivley however, and walked Fitz down sooner.

I thought Fitz did have a degree of success in the first fight though? I stand corrected.

Didn't Jeffries make a big fuss about Fitz second time round though? About doctored gloves or handwraps? I know he was a mess, facially.

Need to get 'In The Ring with James J. Jeffries'. I was looking forward to hearing about Fitz's bouts with Jeffries when the book ended

 

I knew Jeffries kicked up a fuss about the hand wraps, but I thought his attitude was '**** it I'll fight him anyway' which makes him even more bad arse

 

i though jeffries checked out the gloves because after the first fight he was so badly cut up that he thought fitz used loaded wraps.

i belive after the second fight jeffries even said, this time you didnt cut me up as bad as you did in our first match.

im pretty sure in both fights jeffries got more then he bargened for.
