As things stand, there have only ever been two, to the best of my knowledge.

And IMO, these guys have the best chance of emulating Couture and Penn in the near future.

    - if/when he moves to heavyweight has a decent chance

    - if he is still around after the retirement of Anderson Silva, has a good chance of adding the mw belt to the lhw title he won in '04

Can't really think of any others with a realistic chance of achieving this in the current climate.

But, my question to you is this...

Will there ever be a 3-weight UFC champion?

Will there ever be a fighter good enough to go from mw to hw, or from 170-205, or from 155-185, and win the titles there???

    Guys like

(147-175) have jumped massive amounts in boxing. Will this ever happen in the UFC?

Unlikely with 15lbs between weight classes, unless in the future some one makes a Silva like progression from WW to LHW, even though his stay there was shorted lived

3 weight division champs could happen down the track..
At the moment we are seeing new breed fighters like rory mcdonald and jon jones who are coming into top tier mma very young...

I think 2division champ in mma is huge effort as the large gap in divisions compared to boxing....

Aldo could do it too if he decides to move up in weight

 I was responding to Popkins, it´s pretty unlikely that he wins a belt at 170. Anderson could have done it if he had been fighting in the UFC during his 170 days

I could see someone who comes into the sport young at the lower weights doing it, as people fill out its perfectly reasonable. Say, 125, 135, 145, or 135,145,155. In the higher weights the difference is larger and therefore more difficult, especially when you consider the difference between MW and LHW is double the difference between BW and FW.

If Faber beats Cruz could we consider him a multi weight Champion ? It was the WEC when he was the Featherweight Champion but nothing really changed its just those divisons moved to the UFC and kept the Champions and fighters.

If anderson silva decided to fight at 205 longer, he could have gotten a title shot and possibly win.

Could Cruz become a 3 division champ? He is a big BW and could move up to FW and win the title but could he become champ at LW?

If Faber was 10 years younger I could see him being a Champ at 125, 135, but probably not 145, Aldo's just too good for him.
