Sakio Bika is a very good 2nd tier fighter who presents a threat to anyone.

At this stage he hasn't beaten anyone of note. Though winning the Contender is certainly an impressive achievement given the spotlight it receives. Manfredo Jr is easily Bika's best scalp, with Codrington and Soliman (8 rounder) his next best wins.

Bika needs a big win to really strengthen his credentials where at this stage he doesn't seem to be a top level fighter. Mundine certainly presents a great opportunity to build his profile, and he certainly would monumentally in Australia if he won.

Taking on Bika for Mundine also presents a great opportunity, as Bika has a genuine name in the States and is a legimitate top 10 super middle.

If Bika drops back down to middleweight, this will be a teriffic fight for Mundine aswell.

If they do clash, it will be a great fight for us fans!

Tend to agree....do you think Bika can make MW?.....do you think the fight will be at MW or SMW?

I doubt Bika can make middleweight so this is where the problem may be. At least Bika is a former middleweight so he should be able to make weight, like Soliman who can switch divisions.

After dropping to middle, Mundine won't fight Bika at SMW. He should fight Kessler if he's going back to SMW.

So if Mundine does fight him it'll have to be at middleweight or at a catchweight, 164 pounds tops.

Yep the weight issue will come into it......I think they need a title to set the fight off in the main sporting public.....I think Mundine will try to make Bike starve and get down to MW......big rap to Mundine if he moves up to fight Bika at SMW.

However the contender is fought at MW so I see mundine staying put to fight the winner Late this year.....and a fight with Bika for Mundines IBO title is a big risk the TV producers of the contender wont want to risk.

I think Mundine may sit out the next 5 months and fight the winner of the contender.

Yeah, that's a good point about the Contender. Though hope he doesn't do that, that's a complete waste of time.

It'll be interesting to see what Mundine does, it's been over 3 weeks since the Geale fight and he hasn't chosen an opponent. That unusual for Choc - hopefully this means a quality fight lies ahead.

The news around the traps is he will fight the contender winner at MW......so if we look through the aussie MW/SMW scene who may we see...Crampton, Junior, Pitman, Kazzi, Lock and load, Sing, Taylor, Baby face, Preacher, Angelo......and the winner......Junior or Pitman....Now I would like to see Mundine VS Pitman...would you?

Bika used to box at jnr middleweight, didn't he?
I don't see why he wouldn't be able to make middle.

Who knows how the fight will end (if it actually happens). Bika leaves himself opened a lot, but Mundine's straight right is about as powerful as a kittens shoulder charge.

I rate Bika higher than Geale, but he's got a style thats more made for Mundine, but Bika just may overwhelm Mundine.
If the fight happens, I'll lean towards Mundine, but wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if he loses.

I thought he was a MW up to about 2004 then SMW fvs Beyer from then....anyway I could be wrong.....still hes filled out since then and would need to drop muscle to get to MW IMO.

Not really, Pittman isn't going to do much for Mundine but give one common opponent between Mundine and Sturm.

Mundine needs to fight a genuine top 10 fighter if he doesn't fight Sturm or Pavlik.

Bika has an X factor that puts him in a better position to defeat and more vitally Mundine out. Geale certainly doesn't have that on Bika.

However, yeah, his weaknesses are glaring in his defensive armour. Mundine is the king of evasion in Australia and if he fights the right fight imo would school Bika and stop him within the distance.

This contender series looks great for Mundine because it buys him time in the hope that Sturm will fight AA or Pav creating a super champ and a vacant title for Mundine to fight over with Sylvester or the like.

    That's true, it's a good fallback position.

But the only way the fight will sell imo is if the fighter who wins has an undefeated record or does some big KOs within the tournament.

I dont agree with that one mate....this show will be big with fight/ sports fans and the winner will get a shot to beat Mundine for his IBO title.....I think it will do better than Geale VS Mundine did at the gate.

Was about to agree with you until you made that ridiculous comment.

What evidence has Mundine shown to you in his last 7 or 8 fights that he has even the slightest chance of stopping ANY top contender, . . . let alone a beast like Bika??? Gimme a break.

Choc couldn't put a dent or even hurt household names and blown-up welterweights like Crazy Kim, Pintos and a beyond shot Shannon Taylor yet all of a sudden he has a chance of stopping the iron-chinned Bika. Yeah right. And I'm going to be the next Prime Minister.

Bika is a beast, built like a tank and although isn't slick or has great skills, applies tremendous pressure for 12 rounds. He would give Mundine fits with his workrate, power and chin. I would favour Mundine in a close points decision as his defense is still tight, however there would be more than a good chance Bika would overwhelm him and if anyone's getting stopped it would be Mundine. But pointless putting hypotheticals as this aint EVER gonna happen.

I am not saying Mundine will KO Bika but anybody can get decked on any given day....I put Coderenton and Mundine on a same power level and Coderenton decked Bika in round 1 of the contender :deal
