hes relinquished his 'toy SM belt'. hes now officially a middleweight and will be ranked as such. mundine will fight his next fight @ middle, undoubtably against shannon taylor, the man whom gave arthur abraham a tough fight in his last outing. history is littered with good fighters who lost too much weight, dehydrated, and got kod for their trouble. RJJ and chris byrd two of the latest that come to mind. mundine looks like a greyhound at the best of times. for him to lose that extra few kgs will not be easy. if he can do it and remain strong, he will be an awesome middle. but if he struggles to make the weight, he may well become cannon fodder, and he risks doing that EVERY time he loses weight to fight at middle. shannon taylor is probably the wrong bloke to find out against if mundine is comfortable at middle. hes still very dangerous, and he would love nothing more that to ko mundine. i'll bet he is motivated!
talking to two of australias top boxers and possibly our best trainer yesterday, they all agreed he did very well against AA. i'll take their opinion over yours....:good
Doing very well, and giving AA a tough fight as you worded it are 2 very different things. He did do well considering he fought with a damaged rib. But the fight was a poor spectacle and looked like it was set up, because AA was very tentative, and didn't really look like he wanted to KO Taylor. He also won every round as well, or maybe only lost one. Whatever it was, the fight was not close, nor was it tough for AA.
i cant debate your opinion as i didnt see the fight. i can only repeat what was said. that aside, taylor is still a dangerous middleweight, especially if mundine is weakened..
Taylor will be keen and ready to punch on with Mundine for sure but Mundine has 2 much class and speed for Taylor.
mundines speed will be a little less a factor at middle. mundines speed may suffer due to weight loss. like byrds did..... mundine should have picked a 'safer' fight than this to test his strength after such weight loss.
a safer fight then Taylor, Like who? a man with a losing record maybe. He will walk through Taylor like eating his lunch. Taylor is a finished fighter after Mosley put him away and which started Taylors downfall into drugs and since that he never recovered from it. Truly this fight will prove nothing about Mundine at middelweight unless he fights it hard to beat Taylor which can only mean Mundine has made a BIG mistake to move down a weight class. I have no doubt he was running from Kessler like everyone seems to agree with since Mundine once said he would get revenge on anyone who beat him and now he has a chance and he is running. WHICH also brings up the fact IF he fights Taylor are you going to tell me there is more money in that fight then a Kessler rematch? Would he earn more respect beating Taylor over Kessler? Not a chance in hell. Even the Mundine fans CANNOT denie he has cut and ran from the Kessler rematch totally out of fear.
give taylor more credit. he may have lost some pace, but he still retains his punch. how will mundine handle getting hurt? can mundine get back up after a solid kd? weve never seen him dropped and having to recover. IF, taylor can reach mundines chin, and he will if mundine is weakened, it will get very, very, interesting. how hard do you think taylor will train for this fight? how focussed will he be? conversely, what will mundine be concentrating on......?
Shannan Taylor is a shot fighter. I have my doubts he will even KO Andreas Seran this upcoming week on FOX. Seran is a live underdog as Taylor has only fought 1 round in basically a year now. If Mundine doesnt stop Taylor then he has serious issues.
