"But previously he had lost to Sven Ottke, then come back to be world champion; he also lost to (Mikkel) Kessler, then beat Danny Green. You've got to take the good with the bad."

    CLASSIC!!!!

Khoder's putting Wood up alongside the likes of Ottke and Kessler

I'm in a better situation after losing, says Mundine

While critics are claiming it could be the end of 'The Man', Anthony Mundine said his boxing career may in fact benefit after his shock loss to Garth Wood on last night.
The experienced Mundine was heavily backed to outclass Wood, but The Contender television series winner pulled off a memorable upset to score a fifth-round knockout.
While Mundine admits his plans to fight in the United States will now need to be reassessed, the 35-year-old believes his shock loss may reveal a silver lining.

    Mundine floored by Wood

Anthony Mundine struggles to rise from the canvas as Garth Wood's trainer Billy Hussein (middle, behind ropes) and Australian boxing great Jeff Fenech look on.

In a roundabout way, losing can often open the door for bigger opponents in boxing, because adversaries aren't as apprehensive about taking on a struggling opponent.
"It's kind of bizarre in a way, I lost and I'm probably in a better situation than if I won," Mundine told Fox Sports on Thursday.
"In sport I've already achieved greatness in what I've achieved in my career both in boxing and in league, but even more greatness comes from adversity so it could be a blessing in disguise.
"Maybe I didn't have the hunger or the desire like I did when I came into the sport. I was so hungry I was like a Wood, I would do anything to win.
"Not just with last night's fight, but maybe the last half a dozen fights, the eye of the tiger's not there and maybe this will help me get it back."
Mundine's self-confidence has earned him more critics than almost anyone in Australian sport, and many take glee when he suffers a fall.
But the former St George Dragons and Brisbane Broncos NRL star invited his doomsayers to "have their fun" and indicated that retirement is not an option as he chases a junior middleweight world title.
"They can sing their tune now and people, the doubters and the non-believers can have their fun. But I came back before and I know The Man can come back again, I know that," he said.
"I still have the desire to do what no man's done and that's go down to the junior middleweight and win the title, but I'm going to talk to my team, we've got so many options.
"Knowing me and my competitiveness, I wouldn't mind a rematch (with Wood), but it's up to the team. The first goal is stepping in and getting the junior middleweight title and become the first man ever to do it."

A brilliant career move by Mundine. Other than empty headed huggers, this forum has constantly suggested for 12 months that Mandy is nothing more than a domestic level fighter now.

The rest of his career would have been of local fights. USA talk?? LMAO. Whatever!!!!!!!!!
Now, for the first time in years, the prospect of seeing Mundine fight actually intrigues me. A rematch with Woods would sell... to a degree. I'd be sure to hit the local boozer for the rematch.

Now it's time for Woods to dictate terms. 60/40 in his favour. Woods is your only cash cow now Mandy. How sweet it is.

The guy in the Red T shirt almost got Woods DQL for entering the ring before the count was out, lucky Billy Husseins experianced saved the day and he pulled the guy back, he actually grabbed him as the guy in the red T shirt was trying to pull himself up onto the canvas. Billy might not be able to fix up Garths pigeon toed horrible footwork tackle NRL style of boxing but he sure as sht knows the rules and quite possibly saved Garth from a Dissqualification.

Mundine telling porkies :rofl, he was part of the contender series , the winners prize was Mundine and we are supposed to belive that he never watched the show? He didnt want to fight Garth because they did infact watch his tapes and knew just how awkard he would be, Garths a spoiler and the worst kind as he fouls constantly and doesnt get pulled up much due to it, the fight almost didnt happen because Mundine was avoiding it like the plague.

I was a little surprised Mundine's camp was hurt from the loss. Usually camps are overcome with joy when their fighter loses.

The most annoying thing about him is the fact he still preaches the "hard to get fights" nonsense. He is somehow implying that after the loss people will be more willing to take him on, who does he think he'd fooling here?
He has never been avoided in the slightest by anyone, infact given what he offers the opposite would be true.

Mundine, you have massive amounts of money, everyone that fights you earns a record pay check and Internationally you have never had much of a reputation. Anyone you wish to fight (as we know you can afford to pay them), would jump in the ring in a second.
If Sakio Bika can get fights against top opponents (who has less than 10% of the pulling power and money you have) you would have no trounle at all.
