well then thats that i guess, spelling errors explain it all atsch Boxcotton.. They sent in the Military to deal with STD's? :huh
If they sent in female health workers they would not have been able to handle the situation. Did the Military use "excessive" force to handle the situation. Perhaps the extra security was needed, but like I said I dont really know a great deal on the subject.
here is some good reading... At the time the Howard government and the media were making paternalistic statements about rescuing the children from rampant sexual and physical abuse and alcoholism in Aboriginal communities. Aboriginal people across the country were outraged because this was not the case in many Aboriginal communities, yet they were all tarred with the same brush and labeled dysfunctional. The Northern Territory intervention involved a number of unprecedented steps. The government, fully supported by the Labor opposition, rushed a series of draconian measures through the federal parliament that required the suspension of the Racial Discrimination Act and the Land Rights Act 1976. In February this year, the Labor government was forced to acknowledge in its intervention report that virtually no progress had been made in "closing the gap" between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians on a range of social indicators. Prime Minister Julia Gillard declared that it would be "extremely challenging" to attain parity by 2031 in response to the Northern Territory Report into sexual abuse the authors of the Little Children are Sacred Report spoke out against the intervention, arguing that its heavy handed, top-down approach was inconsistent with the recommendations in the report. 40 Aboriginal organisations put forward an alternative proposal for urgent action based on consultation and partnerships with local Aboriginal communities, welfare organisations and women’s groups. This proposal was ignored and, with the support of the former Labor Opposition, the NT Intervention went ahead
best u look into this further boxhead lol... if you are genuine u cant support this report or whats been done with it.
Nobody has ever credibly questioned the integrity of the report, it's purpose, findings or objectivity.......except you.....and you havne't laid eyes on it....****ing clown....atsch The report and it's findings are fact!
I understand the report etc but i dont really see your point, we understand the social ills that have occured within underserviced, remote Aboriginal communities, the people are marganilised, isolated ( sure some choose to be, but whats the alternative) I dont think what has occured is intrinsically an Aboriginal problem, you put a bunch of uneducated white people out there, largely forget about them & get the drink involved & society will break down Some of the intervention has been a good thing, i'm sure parts of society have condemned what has gone on & welcomed help, to stop the break down of society it has to built up & maintained, i suspect that some elders are happy for grog to get ****ed off & thats a good thing, i think you need to work with the communities & not wholly talk down & dictate to them
Some interesting posts here, and for what it is worth I thought I would comment on a few points. 1. Mundine is sort of right in regards to the police as it was most likely racial profiling (black man in a flash car) that got his cousin pulled over. However from what I have read it seems that he was most likely guilty of something and probably deserved it. 2. Mundine may believe that by speaking out he is helping Indigenous people, but with the exception of his friends it is counterproductive and only creates division in the wider community. 3. The Aboriginal culture I have seen in major cities and the type that Mundine promotes is a poor *******ization of American culture mixed with some aspects of traditional Aboriginal culture. There is still plenty of institutional racism in Australia and Aboriginal people face the brunt of it, particularly in remote communities where most Australians are unaware of it, however Mundine and his mates are not subject to this and live in a world far removed from it. It is disappointing that he wastes his profile defending idiots who make it bad for other Aboriginal people hen his voice could be better used helping those who really need it, I can't remember the last time he was in a remote community helping? As far as teaching Aboriginal studies, it is a good Idea but problematic in that who do you get with the expertise to teach it, and with all the different Aboriginal cultures which one do you teach and how assess the success of it.
Dear god, go read the (Ampe Akelyernemane Meke Mekarle) Little Children are Sacred Report cause u clearly have read nothing ive posted. atsch [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Children_are_Sacred[/ame]
TC do you really think urgent consulation & Partnership with local Aboriginal communities would actually have fixed the problem when the men abusing the children were the elders themselves. Womens Groups oh god hahaha Im sure they would have brought in justice quick smart. Damned if you damned if you dont.
*Exactly. There is so much more to our culture then is given credit. Only the negative ever seems to be brought up... The continuous circle of how bad we are etc.... But as soon as we lay some actual facts down, i.e- that what actually happened here in Oz was a form of genocide... it turns into " get over it" But in saying this.... Even as a proud warrior from the Yorta Yorta tribe in Victoria... This is not the right place to vent or discuss race **... It is a boxing forum afterall... And on that note.... I really am looking forward to seeing fight live in Germany another proud Aboriginal warrior by the name of Daniel Geale. Go budda boy. Make us proud. :!: **P.s.... To all the Maori or wanna be "Maori warriors" and people who wanna nuthug the so called "warrior" culture.... How many world champ "warriors" have you had????? Compared to the likes of our so called "non warrior" culture....? Hmmmm .... and please correct me if i am wrong: Timo Masoe:yikes???? Compared to, lets see... : Lionel Rose:good, Anthony Mundine:verysad, Nathan Sting:verysad, Robbie Pedan:good and Daniel Geale:good.... Not bad for a non warrior culture i say eh.... :good
so every single elder was abusing the children m8? dont think so, the report also stated that miners were abusing children, miners being white people.. for intervention to take place the people MUST be consulted, taring them all with the same brush is no solution. im done with this topic anyhow, its getting a bit out of hand and isnt really boxing related, is the guy who is in parliment related to Mundine, he shares the same last name.
Three is no doubt that there were and still are issues in Indigenous communities but the problem with the intervention and similar policy is that there was no consultation with the people, these things were enforced on people and make criminals out of people who would otherwise not be criminals, in that if you are in possession of a pornographic movie you go to court and get a criminal convictions and fine, which most people can't pay so they go to jail. It's the same if you drink a beer, you go to court, get a conviction and a fine. People get the shits in communities because these laws aren't in existence anywhere else.
